There is a good chance, I'll ask SGT Lee if he has keys to it, but I doubt it, bring your bolt cutters with ya, it'll be like Christmas! I couldn't tell what was in there, but it was full of stuff.

Just make sure it stays locked. Ive only been on this site for a few months and would trust just about 99.9% percent of the guys here. But theres alot of lurkers and like I said about Ft Riley, theres nothing ever left in those trucks.

The pump is ecentric so you lossen up the bolts that hold it on then you turn it to tighten the belts then you tighten the bolts. Then you try it out and the water pump leaks. So now you drain and remove the radiator the belts and water pump. Their is a copper sealing ring behind the pump you can put on a new one or cover your old one with rtv and put it all back together.Mind you they do not allways leak but you know how murphys law works.

I second what DaveP said about losing the power steering. I had a p/s hose blow out on mine and thought I was going to die before I got it stopped. Scared the hell out of me as it had a mind of it's own and darted all over the road. Luckily I was only a couple blocks from home when it happened but it kicked my arse just trying to get it that far at a crawl.
Here are a couple pics of towing a jeep behind an 818. I used M151 bumper shackle mounts on the jeep and the tow bar attached perfectly. I also took an old military trailer harness and spliced it to a set of magnetic mount tail lights. The 12v bulbs were swapped for 24v.

Jeff, depending on your what your tag vehicle is, you might want to consider fabbing up some mudflaps for the M818. I know a quarter size rock took out my headlight in my M1009 once.

I read a thread about a 2x4 and some mud flaps and clamps. should be pretty easy but Im not to concerned about it. jeep lights should be a little bit inward from the rear tires on the truck and the windshield is already cracked and dont care about the paint. I do plan on putting mud flaps on it before I register it though. speaking of that Ive heard you need to request the sf97 when you pick up the vehicle. is that true do I ask for it there or how does that work? I need to go thru GL for that right?

and remeber to check your SCA in your cooling system when you get home. hope this helps. Mark

What is SCA? I didnt think about it to much till I was looking at the different coolants they had on the shelf and the one that I saw for big diesel engines said something about SCA. So I thought I come find out what it is before I buy some coolant.

Suplimental Coolant Additives (had to google that one myself)

From what I read, looks like antifreeze used to need SCA packages added to them for diesel application to up the nitrate level to help prevent wet sleeve cylinder cavitation, which apparantly caused liner problems. The nitrates up the thermal level of the coolant.

BUT, new style antifreeze is sold with a SCA package already added to it for diesel or heavy duty applications.

Wether the SCA package was added manualy or premixed with the new style antifreeze the SCA level will deplete over time. There are testing strips that are sold to check the SCA level.

ok thanks. the list so far is 2- 1qt bottles of DOT-5, 2 gallons of PS fluid (capacity is 5qt and I dont know how bad its leaking yet) 1 gallon of 15/40 rottela engine oil. Im gonna bring at least a gallon of coolant and 2 gallons of GL-5. I havent gottn the coolant or GL-5 yet. I'm just gonna bring every hand tool I can find.

If you think of anything else I might need just post it up here.
Hows the tow bar adapters coming?

Oh I got some spare 1683 bulbs but I cant find the 623's anywhere. Napa can get them but I have to order a box of ten. What are the 623's for? they are the smaller bulb in the top of the front and rear housings. I cant get the 1251's either but those are for blackout driving so Im not worried about them. I also got 1662 to put in my civy trailer lights and when I looked at the cross reference site a little bit ago I noticed the 1683's cross to the 1662's. Anyone know what the difference is?

Just grabbed the lamps out of my coat pocket. The 1683 had 2 fillaments but only 1 connection on the bottom and the 1662 has 2 fillaments and 2 connections. I dont see how they cross over. I was looking on the cross reference on the old site and noticed near the top is a 1683 that crossed to a napa 1683 then farther down the page the lamp is listed again and show it crossing to a 1662 napa #:?:

Since the 1683 has 2 fillaments and one connection Im guessing thats the stop and turn and I still need to get the 623's for the tail lights? these are just spares incase I need them.
