What did everyone get from Redstone today?

I agree but I kind of get what BOT is talking about. If you're going to give it to second place, what will be the price? To make it fair you will have to void all the non-paying bidder's bids (even the ones where he wasn't the highest). You may have been in a bidding war with him from $150 up. Should you have to pay the final price if this is the case?

Seeing how GL is unlikely to change their system, you can wish for it any way you want. :)

I picked up an M35A2, lot 3687. This will be my first deuce from GL, my first was a private sale, so I'm a little nervous given some of the horror stories I've heard. I figured it was worth a shot, and if the truck isn't that great, I'm not out too much.

My take is, for the price they are going for, where on earth are you going to get such a heavy, overly simplified, durable and reliable truck as cheaply? OK compressors not included.

For $1600 I got a truck that's rust free, solid, new cargo cover, troop seats, spring front seat, heater, hard top, air shift front diff, and started immediately with firm brakes....minus air....Generator rebuilt 2000, engine rebuilt in 81....

Seems like a steal to me........I'm not complaining....;-). I'd have rather paid $850, but I was willing to go $1800. I got the truck, someone else didn't.

I agree. I think they are a great deal for what you get. I paid 1765 for mine, $1800 was my max. It is a Winch truck, and looked pretty good. Although, in the pictures, it does look like it might not have much winch cable. I didn't get a chance to inspect it prior to purchase, but for the price, I didn't think it was worth the extra expense of a trip to Huntsville to inspect.

If GL had a problem with folks bidding on lots of trucks and not paying, you better believe they would do something about it. Since they haven't, I bet that it's a non issue. Also, just because us commoners use a credit card doesn't mean everyone does. I assure you most of these folks have other methods of paying. I've bid on 42 M1009s in one sale before. I would have to scramble to pay for all of them if I won them all but I coulda done it.

You have to have a credit card on file to bid, but I rarely ever use it to pay for my purchases. I talked with GL and told them to never bill my CC unless I call and tell them to. I pay for all of my truck purchases with wire transfers. I only use the CC for little stuff like backpacks and ammo cans and other little knick knacks.

Ohh, you won THAT truck. Although I didn't see that one in person it looks better than most did. If you want me to take a look at it for you, let me know. I'll probably be up that way in a few weeks.

I don't think all the bids placed by a non-paying bidder should be voided. Because if he bid third highest, you the second highest, then he trumped you with the non-paying bid, then you were willing to pay what you bid at he second spot. Which was more than his bid.

I don't know, I'm a newbie at this anyway. Just thinking out loud....

And M16TY, keep those storms on your side of the river tonight, we don't want them over here. ;-)

Yes, please. I would greatly appreciate it.

Although, what I saw from the photos looked pretty good, they couldn't show every detail.

Somebody posted that the prices are going up because more people are getting into the hobby. However how many can use a duece? How many can even have a duece due to zoning restrictions? How many can afford to drive a duece?
These trucks will be around for years to come. I'm sure overseas surplus dealers storage yards are bursting at the seams with them.

Well, I wrote my representative and senators and asked them to look into the way that Government Liquidation allows their bidding. I find it hard to believe that the guy who bid $850 on 240 trucks has a credit card with a $204,000 limit. I asked them to look into it to see if GL is allowing fraud through negligence. My solution would be to allow a person to have a maximum of $10,000 in winning bids UNLESS you get pre-approval to bid higher. That would keep the bozos from bidding up the trucks.

Could have been a surplus dealer or a kid --

I posted that. Compared to the adverage collector vehicle market, MV are scarce. Many, many more muscle cars were made than deuces. Deuces are CHEAP compared to other motor vehicle hobbies. They have a toy appeal, a work appeal, etc. I can't really "USE" the one I bought, yet I bought it. I don't need a USE, I just have to WANT.

And it doesn't take that many NEW hobbyists on GL to make a price difference. Redstone had over 200 trucks. Seems like a lot, but if just 10-15 noobs are shopping, the prices are going to creep upwards. In a place like Iowa, when you are selling just 10-15 trucks, just having Rat enter the hobby that week probably drove prices up (on GenSets for sure) that week.

It might be a few bucks a week, but I think the prices will climb up. Never to the levels of my 67 Chevelle or Rat's old 66 El Camino, but they will go higher than some people can pay or that some old timers are used to. Still, this will be a very "cheap" hobby (as compared to some) for a long, long time. I'm not saying the end is near, but if you're saving for your 1st MV, you might want to have a couple extra bucks in your wallet.

Like Dug say, for most of us, it's not a need, it's a want. And for the price, it's sure a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the new 3/4 ton ton I want, but don't need since I already have one.

Zoning restrictions? Most places it's licensed like a regular motor vehicle, no restrictions there. If you are unlucky enough to live in place such as that, bummer, or maybe you own a house with a covenant, I guess you'll store it elsewhere.

As far as affordability to drive? 25 bucks a month for unrestricted use by my insureance co. (State Farm). I can do with it anything I can with my 3/4 ton truck without limits. Fuel? At 10 MPG that people are claiming they get, it's better than the 454 in my truck. It gets 9 MPG on a good day, 10 on a great day, 5 in 4WD. So that's not an issue.

I think there is a pretty limited number of people that will want these types of trucks. Most people seem to think these trucks are ugly and don't understand why anyone would want something so basic and rough looking. "At least paint it a shiny color." "And I'm not riding in that thing." "You can't possibly want to leave that flat camo paint on it." "55 mph top speed! are you kidding?" From the comments I here, there is not much to worry about. Only a select few have the acquired taste fow such a select set of vehicles.:-D

No kidding. I thought my friends would be jealous of the deuce. It's 6x6, multi-fuel and can haul 10,000lbs. All they would say is "Why did you buy THAT?" and "Are you going to invade a small country?". I was thinking, why wouldn't you want one?
