Those Aren't Filters, These Are Filters!

A man after my own heart for sure! I work for the local CAT dealer as a field mechanic. I wonder on your choice of filter though. The 1R1807 has the same rating, is atleast a 3rd smaller so it wouldnt be so tight. To my knowledge Cat dosnt offer an anti-drainback filter, all of em hang down. As far as capacity, no problem there. You wont have any problem with plugging, I dont think people realize how much crud you have to put into the filer to plug it. Keep us in the loop on your findings

1R1807 only flows 18-20 GPM, 1R1808 that I used flows 28-30 GPM, I've read on here that the multifuel engines oil pump is capable of 26 GPM, so I didn't want the filter to be the restriction. 1R1807 doesn't use the same 1-1/2"-16 threads, which from what I've seen appears to be the standard size for big rig diesel sized engines. I didn't want to use something oddball, limiting me to only one specific filter.

As far as cutting a hole in the hood, no I didn't have to do that, but I did have to grind clearance in the oil cooler housing to squeeze the rear filter in there.

They do not appear to be anti-drain.
This is a common question/issue. Couldn't you just instal an inline one way flow check valve? Could be added to the plumbing and it would work with the stock filters or any aftermarket unit. I haven't looked at it yet, but I will take a look today.

Any thoughts?

If the deuce pump is capable of 26 GPM it would seem that two filters in parallel capable of handling at least 13 GPM or greater would do it. So the 1R1807 should do it as far as volume is concerned I would think. Cat filters are good stuff but a little expensive I bet. I like your adaptors, very well done.
I was thinking the same thing. Two filters in parallel would share the pressure... in theory. I'm by no means an expert on the Duece though.

I tried to find out if they are parallel or in series, but couldn't find it in the TM's I looked at. If in series then you would need each filter to flow at least 26GPM. If they are parallel, then mine can half clog up and still flow enough. The cost on the filters was way cheaper than I expected, $22 each. A friend of mine works at a CAT dealer and got them for me at her cost, so I don't know what actual retail on them is.

Cat filters in general are pretty reasonable. Actually lower than lots of aftermarket ones that are of lesser quality, on top of being lesser specifications to begin with.
Cat takes filters seriously.. Even small micron rating filters will hold a lot of shmutz before they "load up" to the point of impeding the flow below their rating.

The filters in the trucks have worked in all climate conditions around the world, these are known to be increadably reliable motors, so i'm just wondering...and the old filters didn't work? just wondering...

Not that the old filters don't work, these are just better. My main reason for doing this, was quicker oil pressure. I cranked it today after sitting 24 hours, and had oil pressure within a second and a half. I'm gonna let it sit for a week now and see how it does.

Those filters look quit a bit bigger than the 1970 5-micron filters that I am using and the 1970s (from what I remember) have twice the capacity (@ 5-mg) of the stock deuce filters.

I'm no expert in this area but to my way of thinking if the new filters have 2+ the capacity of the stock filters @ 5mg you will have some cushion time for them to get dirty before things get critical. I hope that makes sense.

Having said this --- I agree, they are going to get dirty. To my way of thinking the bypass filter is a good idea, even with 5 micron filters.

I don't believe the by-pass valves are very accurate. I've got three oil pressure gauges. The first reads pressure between the oil pump and the filters. The second reads immediately after the filters and the third reads at the turbo. Until just recently all three were 100 PSI gauges. This past winter I had to change the gauge that reads between the oil pump and the filters because it filled up with oil. The cold starts were too much for it so I installed a 150 PSI gauge. My by-pass valve is stock.

Don't mean to highjack your thread on this USMC062 --- just reporting what my gauges are telling me.

Well I let it sit for a week and just now cranked it up. I still had oil pressure within a few seconds. So if my check valves are leaking down any, it's a really slow leak. So all is good so far!

Just wondering, with all of the work in making the adaptors, why not just mount them rightside up remotely, and not worry about preventing backflow?

I could have done that, but I like the simplicity of keeping them on the engine. I do have quite a bit of work in the adapters, but I would have had close to the same amount to make a remote mount setup. Plus I didn't want hoses and stuff running all over the place taking up more space under the hood.
