Replace Rear Crankshaft Seal?

After losing 5th gear in my Deuce, I'm replacing my transmissiion with a T/O unit., a Wolverhampton transmission I picked up from TWRIGHT. I decided to go ahead and replace the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing at the same time. The question I have is should I go ahead and replace the rear engine seal and pilot bearing at the same time? I currently have zero leaks of any kind on this truck. I usually follow the adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but in this case I'm not sure. It's a lot of work to get to the seal later if needed.

I usually follow the same logic but when my trans went south I didn't touch the nonleaking seal. I know 2 friends with M series jeeps and they replaced theirs and it started a huge leak.

If anything I would reaplace the seal and run the motor and get it good and hot before reinstalling the clutch or anything else. make sure it doesn't leak before you put it back together.

I usually follow the same rule and it has served me well over the years, but I would replace the seal while I had all that apart. 2cents

I received the new rear engine seal and it looks quite large to me. I haven't pulled the transmission yet, so I don't know how large the seal should be. The new one I received is 6 inches O.D. and 4-7/8 inches I.D., approximately. Does this sound right?

sounds like the right one i wouldnt change it unless its leaking .they seam to be a big problem area on these truck and right now you are one of the lucky ones i would leave it at that .if you change it you could get it in just a slight different place and have it sitting have on the ridge that is worn in the crank and it will leak:roll: or maybe get a dry rotted seal or cheap non oem seal that will get hard and start leaking either way there is alot of ways you could make it start leaking and one way you know it wont leak:?:if it aint broke dont fix it
