Floor mat AND bedliner?

Ok, today I removed the interior from my M1009 and proceeded to repair/refinish it. It came with a rubber mat and under the mat was 1/2" of foam, similar to what is used in couch cushions. The foam was pretty wet, and probably has been for quite some time, and there was a lot of wet dirt underneath. To my pleasant surprise, once I got everything cleaned out, there was really very little rust. There were a few small spots, but overall it was in great shape. I cleaned the little rust that was there with a wire brush, then sprayed it with Rustoleum rust reformer paint, then Rustoleum rubberized undercoating, and finally painted the entire floor from firewall to (and including) the tailgate and did all the way up the sides of the back up to the bottom of the cover with Rustoleum bedliner. This is the stuff in a gallon can you can get at Walmart for ~$45/can. I ended up using about 1 1/3 cans to do two relatively thick coats.

My first questions is, I know there are issues with water being trapped between the floor mat and the metal floor causing rust. Will the bedliner material prevent that from happening if I reinstall the mat as I plan on doing?

My next question-- what is a suitable replacement for the couch cushion foam? I'd like to put something there for noise/temp insulation, but would like something that won't hold much water. Dynamat is a ripoff IMO... good product, but WAAAAY too expensive per square foot to justify using it for this project. What kind of material can I get from Home Depot that will do a reasonable job?

Finally, the rubber mat itself. It's in decent shape, but does have some cracks in it. What would be a good way to repair these? The idea I have is to use duct tape on the underside, and then use black silicone glue on the top to seal/fill the cracks. Anyone have any better methods to repair the mat?

Home Depot sells a Mylar (?) foil sandwiched insulation, its about 1/2" thick and comes in rolls of 6' I belive. Works great, and its not to pricey compared with Dynamat.

This thread is worthless without pictures!!

Seriously... post up I would like to see how it looks!:-D
it was dark by the time i was done tonight, but i'll try to take some pics tomorrow. I'll admit it's not great to look at, as it was kind of gopped on there, but i'm going for function here, and it should function great. On top of that, just about all of it will be covered by floor mat or bed mat anyway (mine came with a 1/2" rubber mat in the back bed too!)

Does the bedliner smell when it's used in an enclosed vehicle?
oh-****-yes

not sure about long term, but ya, I was high as a kite today painting it on, and that was with both doors open and the tailgate down, with a breeze blowing from the back of the truck forward. I'm hoping the fumes die down a bit after the paint dries and cures

That's what I meant, in the long term after it dries.
obviously I just laid it down today, so I really don't know how well it will do after a few days/weeks/months. I'll report back though. Judging from some of the threads here, I can't be the first guy to do this, so someone else might be able to give you some insight on it already.

Sounds to me like your on the right track ...In regards to the foam ...lose it use a foil lined insullation with the foil down not up and use metal tape to secure it ...The best I found is used in the heating and cooling industry and should be affordable ..Shoe goop should be better than Silicon because it is more flexible and dries faster .....But that's justt my oppinion.......

How's the exterior?

Toss it down your driveway, yet?

I think he does that on the 87th day of ownership.

NT - did the rest of your floor have any kind of rubber coating or was it bare steel? Mine has some kind of brushed in rubber stuff that's **** near impossible to remove.

the exterior is pretty good. the paint on the roof is a bit sun faded, but otherwise it's in good shape. I'm going to have to find better interior insulation, because the stuff I got is too thin. it's the foil backed stuff, but it's only 1/8" thick or so. it was real easy to work with, but too thin. Too much noise still. And the FUMES! ZOMG it's fumey as **** in there. I'm hoping in a few days it will air out, but right now i can't really drive with the windows up.

Anyway, on with the pics.

WHERE can I get those rubber floor pieces??!! I surely didnt notice them in my LMC catalog...

I painted my floor with brush in heruliner, couple of gals of it just up infront of the rear seat to firewall and sprinkled kitty litter/oil dry for "grippage". Put several coats over the first coat and it seems to work well. I rinse french fries and spilled soda with ease now. Those mats glued together would be verrrry nice though.
