any pics of fuel heater on 809's?

Full arctic kit on 809 w pics.

I'm in the process of installing the fuel fired heater on the 818. the instructions aren't so much instructions as they are blueprints, so many of the small details like placement and such are just not there.

also other things like where to run the fuel lines just aren't shown. so anybody out there have this setup? I know there is a guy on here that has a tan 818 he just got from gl that has the system. from CO I think.

I take it you have these from the TM, then. Note that the fuel pump is the same for the coolant heater, since only one is to be used at a time and located in the battery compartment..

your pics show the 1 fuel pump and thats right but my blueprints show it being mounted in the fender area behind the RF tire. I've also seen it there one 1 truck many years ago. but the first pic you show is very helpful. I did see it in the TM's but yours is much clearer. thanks.

now that I think about it I think yours is for the multifuel trucks. mine is for the 809's and it doesnt have a fuel filter. it "T"'s into the trucks fuel supply right after the fuel filter for the engine.

Hmmm... it's the 260-20 manual, should be Cummins...naturally aspirated NHC250. The manual is dated 1972.

Does this image agree with your fuel system? The second image shows the "T" you mentioned.

On my 818 the fuel was tapped from a T at the rear part of the driver's side fender near the fuel filter. There was a hose in the mix also but I can't remember the location exactly. A rigid line went from the driver's side to the Passenger's side. The pump was located at the rear of the passenger's side fender. It then ran up the fender to the heater. The flex exhaust pipe ran down the passenger' side fender also. The control box was just off center below the dash on the passenger's side with the emergency switch just about centered below the dash. The heater was located on a raised pedestal so the exhaust could route through an elbow to the back. This pedestal mounted on water heater bracket on the passenger's side of the compartment. Keep in mint the other M809 series might not route the fuel supply to the driver's side as the 818 had dual tanks with the selector valve on the driver's floor.

this is my heater's fuel pump. But there are things like mounting location that just isn't perfectly clear.

this pic shows a rib on the front from R to L.


mine has a rib on the back of the panel from R to L. opposite in every way.

my tm is the 260-20 from 1981.

Is your install to include the coolant heater and battery move?
Is it a new kit or a take out?

I know that it often makes the install much more drug out, having to stop an add to your photo log.

I won't be doing the coolant heater as of yet bc I don't have one. I do have the arctic batt box and will move 2 of them to the cab like it should. Now with a pattern to make the oil pan shroud I can do that as well.

this truck is very close at a musem and won't be moving any decade any time soon so if you need any info I can get it anytime.

the kit I'm putting on my 818 is new and very confusing, it has some parts of the full install but is mainly the multifuel cab heat. it's the one that was being sold on here.

it does not have the cab insulation, any coolant heater or any of the hood,grill covers but the rest is pretty complete. I do have a coolant heater but I need to check, I don't think its the right one for this truck.

The kit I have is good bc the 809's share a common fuel pump and the wiring is common so all I'll need is the control box and pump.

In the pics it's interesting that they used a non stock location for the coolant hoses going into the motor.

I'm sure it can be adapted. just depends on how much work you want to do.

heck im not afraid of a little wiring ect ive done a few other boneheaded projects before
currently im planning on keeping the 6.2 but later down the road swapping to a 5.9 and 12v

I have just received the coolant heater with oil pan shroud and battery box with heater plate. I'm very happy. I should have it all installed in a few weeks. it's exactly what was seen in the pics but it's all NOS, also got the complete canvas for the hood and sides plus the batt box shield.

I just replaced non functional engine coolant heater in an M35 with a NOS heater. The oil pan already had the shroud, but no exhaust tubing to the shroud from the heater. The exhaust port on the heater is one size and the exhaust inlet port on the shroud is another size. My question is, what size should the flex tubing be? I thought about using the flex tubing available at NAPA, but its not very durable. Is there a better source? Heating the oil pan, in sever cold, is half the battle!

Rosco, how different are the sizes?
Here are the pics from my 5-ton TM. The NSN for the flex hose is 2540-00-044-6674.

Would love to have a look at your "nonfunctional" coolant heater, but realize that the shipping back and forth makes it academic...I'm slowly getting out of hibernation here and started working on mine again yesterday (don't have the oil pan shroud for the 8x8 multifuel, though).
