Thanks for the support fellows! This list sure makes the world shrink.
To answer some of the questions, it's an LDS-465-2, it sounded very "smooth", less noisy than the typical deuce engine, even with the "hood" open.
I didn't run it long, since the fuel system is incomplete, at least I have the satisfaction of knowing it will run.

Many things to check out, instruments, power steering hydraulics, the 100amp alternator, lots and lots of air lines and valves, transmission, the crankcase breather valve, the flame heater, the fuel density compensator, winch/pto and more.
The electrical is working, turn signals and the newly installed solenoid shut down work. I did install a new flasher unit, low air pressure switch and the buzzer wasn't grounded properly. Found two air leaks so far.

The truck has been sitting for about ten years, it has a sticker (inspection?) on the windshield, but no year.

Jim Henry in NC can get authentic tires, just don't know the cost.

It does have slave connectors, two as a matter of fact (one was used for powering part of the Pershing system, it's the recepticle mounted on the back of the cab), the other is right on the battery box under the passenger seat.
One nice thing is that there is absolutely no rust (except for surface rust on some parts) with the aluminum cab/tub, which seems as solid as the day it was made.
Most of the cold weather kit has been torn out, the alcohol evaporator (except for a broken bottle) and some ducts and wiring are still there.

Glad to hear it. Now next big test will be a test drive around the yard. Did you try to move it on its own power yet?

Removed the front tires today and checked the steering with the axles on blocks. Worked okay, but still very hard to turn the steering wheel. Must be the power steering cylinder resisting. Lots of places to lube, maybe that will help some.
(Haven't started the engine again since the fuel system is not yet complete.)

Read about the Allison TX200-6 automatic transmission. It has a built-in hydraulic driveline retarder feature.
Allison claims that it's more effective (other references) than the Jake brake and noiseless.
The linkage is not hooked up on my truck, but it's all there and could apparently be done easily.

I used the exhaust brake on my deuce extensively during my cross country trip and really appreciate the added braking power in mountain driving.
When I get around to it, I'll rig up a linkage a test it. The heat generated is cooled in the transmission fluid cooler up front.

Since it's such an easy hook-up and a great feature, particularily for a tractor trailer rig, I wonder if it was used in some vehicles...

We had a 72 IHC dumper with a 450 and a 6 speed Allison. All the retarders had been disconnected on those trucks due to blowing tranny seals. I don't know how reliable those older juice boxes were with the retarders, but they were fine without them. Check the flex plate bolts, there is a stack of thin sheet metal plates that connect the tranny to the engine. If the bolts get loose, the plates will self destruct in a hurry.

Congrats on all your progress Bjorn! I wish you weren't clear across the state or I'd come help out. Course I have my hands full of 923 projects at the moment ;)

I am looking at a m757 and a m656 with old nd tires (good tread but weathered) has anyone tried to see how large a tire would fit on it? I understand the 14.5 is no longer made so would like some options. Also are axle parts available?

Buying or just looking? Got any pictures?

The 14.5R20 should be available as surplus. The image here shows the M656 with 395/85R20 radials.

I want to put the original tires back on mine, even if it takes a while. Only have 7 now and a couple are not too great looking.

Will probably buy but don't know which one the 656 in bad shape no title or the 757 running in Oklahoma with no title. Have you heard of any others for sale? I believe the guy with the 757 also has a parts 757 if you need parts. Happy to see the tire pic! Thanks
Got about 9 inches of snow today so can't drag anything that big home for a couple of days.
Are axle parts available?

Is the 757 in Oklahoma the one that belongs to Frank Masoner? If so, he does have some axle parts and I have gotten some things from him already (still in OK, though).
If I had the money, I'd buy both just to keep them from being scrapped, title or no title, these things are rare relatively speaking and the aluminum is awfully tempting to junk dealers.

I think thats his name his email is old757. The m275 went for more than I was willing to pay with shipping so am trying to get hold of the guy with the 656. His email does not work but he is near Colorado Springs. The tractor m757 in Ok is probably a better deal. there are pics I will try to copy them to a reply but they are not attachements.
