Yorkgulch2, if it helps, send them to my email addy (super_deuce@hotmail.com) and I can post them.

The M656 has the swimming feature, which made it my first choice. Both have major componets made of aluminum and rust should be non-existant. They have lots of unique design features.
If you get one and don't need/want the original tires, please, keep me in mind.
Thanks and good luck.

Backing up a step in the thread... I've driven Mack fire trucks with the Allison 3 speed W/ retarder. The pedal is usually by your left heal infront of the seat. Yours may be placed differently. It was easy to forget the pedal was there and be standing on it unintentionaly. It would stall the truck at low speeds. It was however generally effective.

Well, it's not hooked up, the linkage is not present.
I got answers on this on the pershingmissile group forum and nobody had the retarder operational (this is from people who drove these trucks for years in Germany).
Engine braking can cause loss of control on slippery pavement, but is otherwise great. I plan to hook mine up when I get that far.

That looks like standard crane steering. Ross steering box with hydraulic assist . Lorian crane uses that type of steering ,also P&H MT250 just a little newer model. Nice project! [thumbzup] Great pics . [ was wondering what brand and model of digital camera do most of you fellows use ? I like the quality of photos that show up on this site. OSO

I use a Crap Model 9000 with the Battery Annihilator option. rofl

Dang thing goes through AAs like nothing, no matter the brand. Going to get a really nice one with the video and sound and a rechargable battery soon. Haven't picked out a brand.

And Bjorn, that truck is awesome! can't wait to see it in person.

Removed the front tires today and checked the steering with the axles on blocks. Worked okay, but still very hard to turn the steering wheel. Must be the power steering cylinder resisting. Lots of places to lube, maybe that will help some.
(Haven't started the engine again since the fuel system is not yet complete.)
Hi Bjorn,

I am trying to figure out how is the steering done on your truck. If I am not mistaken, there is a steering box above the center of the front tandem. The pitman arm is connected to two drag links, one for the each axle. Correct?

A divorced PTO box w/ fwd-N-rev. Both input and output on same side. Unknown manufacturer...I'd speculate Chelsea or Dana. As far as I know it's specific to the 757 and 656 winch trucks.

Thank you Bjorn for the drawings. I am trying to figure out how to build double steering on Deuce. It seems like if I connect the gear box directly to the idler arm on the picture (which would become pitman arm), it wouldn't affect the function of the steering at all, right? Peter
