Took maybe twenty minutes for both sides. Got them from jatonka today around 11:30 and took some pics shortly after coming home and putting them on.

Not enough grease on the hands to make a big difference, gaskets were included with them, and remove the bolts, assemble to the axles and finished.

Thanks JT for the quick service. I had forgotten how easy these things are to install.

I post the pics a bit later.

Nice neat and clean. The AVM hubs are extremely well built. I have had two on the first deuce for a couple of years, maybe more. Never a problem.

I also ordered the shifter and transfer lever boot kits. They will take longer to install. :)

Forgive my ignorance, but if you have an airshift for the front axle, what's the purpose of the lockouts on it?
That disconnects the transfer but your wheel tire is still turning the axel shafts . Say if you were to break a shaft and had a lock out you could unlock the wheel and roll on out with out binding things up or doing more damage .

So it's purpose is to minimize moving parts on the front axle when you don't want 6x6 (or 4x4 for bobbers). Kinda like a Ford 4x4 with the lockout hubs and the 4wd shift in the cab, correct? I can see the purpose now.

Shifter boot kit ? Link to purchase please .
These go over the shift lever and transfer case lever. They keep the heat and dust out in Texas. In the land of the Yankees they keep heat in the cab. I have them on the second deuce and it makes a lot of difference in parades here in the Summer.

I'd like to put a disconnect on the forward rear axle. i bet that would help out a lot. i just dont know how much abuse those hubs would take on the rear axle if you had them engaged and a full load on the back. i dont know enough about the hubs to know if they will take a beating like that. i know it would help out with turning radius.

wildchild unless you are running lockers it really wouldnt help , tire scrub is the problem with turning and lockouts on the rear wouldnt change that . With open diffs they can rotate freely and not bind in a turn . If your locked in the rear then yes i see your point .

I tried that. VERY unsatisfactory. No traction in dirt! On flat pavement it was no big deal. Any dirt, big tire spin.

No problem. I thought everyone knew John Tennis and his jatonka site.

Having been here for a few years I have come to especially admire John Tennis, aka jatonka, and Bjorn, aka cranetruck. JT because he provides some basic need items unavailable elsewhere and Bjorn because he knows everything about MV electrical systems, problems and solutions. Both are incredibly innovative men. Better, they are willing to share their knowledge with a complete idiot. Me.8) And, everyone here just for the asking.

If you do not avail yourselves of their immense assistance and knowledge, you are the poorer for it.

Thanks again to both for really enhancing my experiences with MV's.

the diffs are open, but there both rear axles are still locked together (pinions spin the exactly the same). when i go around a turn real slow in 1st low, i can see the forward rear axle have some tire slippage. the tire is spinning faster than ground speed and acting like it wants to push me straight. Thats where i see it would help with the turning radius. it would make the front rear axle just like an idler axle. this tire spinning seems like it would have to effect something, right?

Is it better to have the hubs in 4X4 all the time? Even when not in Low gear?

Yes it will have some effect but not that much . I think the cons out weigh the pros for this idea how ever .
