Good day, I am just writing this to thank everyone here that has helped me out in the 4 months I have owned my M1009. In just 4 months This truck has drained my savings. It went through 2 starters, has 2 new batteries, 2 brand new starters, a new GP relay, and 2 brand new alternators. My M1009 is now on eBay awaiting the reserve to be hit. It's only 200 away from being hit. I just got this thing up and running great, and want it to go to a good home where someone can take care of her. I cant take the chance on something else breaking on this truck, and not having the funds to fix it as it is my daily driver. The wife has the cobalt :)

I am not trying to deter any new prospective MV owner from buying one, by all means go ahead, mine is a solid beast and I enjoy driving it daily. I just had a bad experience and might even buy another one in due time when fit. This forum site is the best out there that I have found. The TMs have been a great help, as well as the members on here, once again thank you!!

Hopefully soon I will have another MV and start posting on here again, but until then, and thank you all.

That sucks, sorry to hear and wish you were closer - maybe I have become numb to knowing my trucks need another XXXX, it's just part of the driving the older vehicle experience. Vastly cheaper than driving a newer vehicle after 450k miles on one of them (the F150) One item I have done to offset the costs over the years is take advantage of Autozone's lifetime warranty on parts - they don't expect someone to keep a vehicle for 20+ years in their model. Have been through several radiators, water pumps, alternators, ps pumps, brake master cyls, starters, etc. Treat it like an aircraft with TBOs - water pump leaks..then it's about time for a new radiator as well. =)

Sorry to hear you want to leave ; no need to leave the site though. Reading all -the vast information on here is half the fun. Stick around, you have experience in owning a piece of history and may be able to help some else out.

I agree with FL_Frank I too shop at Autozone because of their lifetime warranty. If you are going to keep the vehicle for several years it is easy for me to justify spending a little more money to get the lifetime warrranty. I just replaced all the brakes on my car and I'm taking the old ones back today to get my money back. Advance Auto used to have the same lifetime warranty but they got rid of it and only do limited lifetime now.

Unfortunantly that series of trucks is prone to electrical gremlins....always has been.
I wasn't fond of them when I had to drive them in the Army and never had the urge to own one.

Maybe you can find an MV that is more user friendly and doesn't attract the attention of Mr. Murphy so often.

"2 starters, has 2 new batteries, 2 brand new starters, a new GP relay, and 2 brand new alternators" I assume you meant one each. Too bad, however this is a MV vehicle hobby and it costs money. For cheap reliable transportation I would not buy a MV maybe a moped.

I saw the truck on ebay it looks like a nice truck where did it come from did you buy it locally?
I did buy it locally from a dealer in highland park il, they said she came from Georgia. She is a beauty, everyone always talks to me when I go to gas her up, or get a bite to eat.

And I am not giving up lol, I'll be on the site to offer my little experience lol. Honestly love driving this m1009 very much. But I think I might try to get something with a little less gremlins lol.

Out of curiosity since I am still a newbie, I'll also search the site after work, is there any gasoline mvs instead of diesel?

Only ones you will find are the Jeeps, mules. the M37 and 715's....The older trucks. For the smaller trucks, don't have time to list all the gas powered ones.

Hey dude....Dont give up on the hobby totally. My first 09 was a serious learning experience. I called it the Money Pit if that tells you anything. And looking back, I'm sure some of my electrical issues were made worse by yours truly.
I have learned so much from that...and much more from the folks on steel soldiers.
During my last deployment, I spent A TON of time just reading everything I could here on SS. All that info helped me with my current oh-nine. Thus far, my restoration has only been interupted by stateside activities. The experience of owning a former MV ( for me ) has been so much fun.....
Best of luck brother!!

Don't forget the Dodge pickup trucks that had the 318 gassers in them.

We had one in a unit I was in and it was a pretty good truck but it also had the 24 volt system in it.

It is technically an MV and (in my mind) would be a good daily driver if you can find one in good shape for a reasonable price.

....stay focused...

A MV is much more than a 'daily-driver'. It's a piece of history...it's an investment for use in perilious times...and it tells people you have a 'military mind-set'. In other words....you have made a statement. It's like owning a Harley-Davidson...if you have to explain it to someone...then they won't understand. It's a shame you apparently got one that needed a lot of work and the expense involved. But...and I say this to prospective owners/buyers of firearms...'if you cannot afford the ammo, don't buy the gun'. Obviously,my personal opinion...LOL....

WARNING:
AMPUTATION of the OD IRON from the ADDICT DOES NOT CURE the ADDICTION :!:

You will find yourself daydreaming of purchasing, driving, covetting another. And... before you know it, the attraction will become a powerful LUST for another MV. There is NO STRONGER FORCE in all of the universe.

Be warned, young MVer..... Be WARNED aua

Well, it looks like I am keeping her a bit longer, the reserve was hit, and the buyer backed out, and the second chance person didnt want her either. It's all good, I'll give it another try in a little bit, but at least I know she's up and running decently for now. And I like your comment, if you cant afford the ammo dont buy the gun, lol.

I can afford the bullets, but not in bulk like all the problems that hit me head on with this m1009. Maybe she didnt go for a reason, who knows. But I'll be with it for at least this season. I am thinking of keeping her actually now, but now just need to try saving up for both a new car, and to fix up the m1009.
