Engine shut off/locked up. Will not crank.

1st order of business sorry for the engine problem. That really sucks the green weenie.

Suggestion:
Why not look for a Crate LDS. I see them advertised all of the time. At least you know it is a runner and no headaches.

Again very sorry.

Did someone say women in camo shorts?:grd:

This is an "offseason" pic of her and I in Mexico last Feb. She is 24 pounds leaner now. I'm 35 pounds leaner too LOL.

I'll should have the truck done for her and her friends to do a cool shoot with the truck. They've already been talking about little camo spandex shorts, tactical weapons, etc... Should be cool. And look good too!

The new Internationals and Mack have a clutch interlock switch. One of my coworkers found out about that the hard way. He was not going "all the way to floor" with the clutch pedal, and was not tripping the interlock. He was in the middle of calling the shop(60 miles away) when I pulled up. I asked what was going on, climbed into the tractor, slammed the clutch to floor with my size 12's,(like I always do), and the International fired right up.
As for depressing the clutch when starting, I was taught that any standard transmission vehicle was started with the clutch depressed, and transmission in neutral. This reduces drag and wear on the starter, and in cold weather, helps the starter spin the engine up. When it is 20º out side, the gear lube in the tranny is like gumbo. :mrgreen:

I see now and for those prices, they will "always" be for sale.

I doubt the OP is looking to replace his motor with a $3500-$4500 LDS USED TAKE OUT (plus shipping). But good to know if money grew on trees.

I've got a few cheap trucks local that I am going to check out this weekend.

I tried to search for this, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.

When I get another engine, should I pull the pan and put new rod bolts in it? Obviously inspect the bearings while I'm there. From what I read, the re-used, over tightened, over stretched rod bolts tend to be what fail.

Sorry it didnt turn out to be anything simple. With the money you got back from the seller I'd say you got a pretty good start.

You know, there is new cranks, new pistons and liners, new turbos, new IPs, and a few other items that just got surplussed. I bet you could get one heck of a good runner if you found a cheap long block.

I also recommend the LDS. My deuce has one and it takes hills pretty well. On 18th street in KCK going south from I-70 to I-35 it only gets down to 45 mph on the hill. On 635 south between I-70 and I-35 it only gets down to about 40. I just bought a pyrometer and boost gauge off E-bay. I want to know more about my engine's performance.

I am sure sorry to hear about your engine. I would not be nearly as upbeat as you are knowing that I had to do a swap this soon! On another note, I am very impressed at how observant your fiance is. About a year ago I took my deuce, M715, 1950 Plymouth and my antique honda motorcycle to a car show. My wife didn't notice that anything was missing from the driveway for two days. By the way, what part of Mexico is that? My guess would be Mayan Riviera judging by the sand and water color. Here is a pic from Playa del Carmen.

We were in Playa also. We stayed at the Royal. It was awesome. I expected the food to be better. Breakfast was always very good. I wasn't impressed with any of the other meals at the resort. We ate on whatever that main street is most of the time.

We want to go back soon. The water and sand was awesome. We stayed only 5 days, but your first and last day were burned up driving too and from cancun and flying. Next time we are going to try to figure out a way to fly in earlier, leave later, and stay 7 days.

There are at least four of these available and three look like depot rebuilds still in the crate. Looks like time to bid an engine and take the girl to Florida for a little vacation.
You can't do links to an active auction. Plus there is zero way of knowing if they have problems, so they might be junk anyway.

Go for the 5.9 Cummins or an A3 drivetrain, Multi's are bottom-end eating dinosaurs, I've got three lying under a barn with bad bottom ends right now that would be scrap except I might need parts for the other crumbly-breaky Multis. Don't risk buying a 'low mile' replacement, the lowest mile bad bottom end Multi I've bought had less than 2500 miles on it right off Eglin AFB, it looked like Unc Sam's boys forgot to torque the main cap bolts! :p Then there's the one with the oil pump gear sheared off and then another with just bad bearings, both out of 'low mile' trucks

The Cummins swap parts aren't hard to find or that expensive, move on up to late 20th century technology. There are 'parted' A3s out there too that might yield eng/trans as well as air-o-matic steering...
