Cobra crane

Picked up a new toy yesterday. It's a "cobra crane". Rated at 1500lbs at full extent. It's got two leaky cyls and a ratty looking hose I'm going to deal with. But other than that it's in working order. It seems very strong, but is slow on the 220vac. It can also run off a 24v battery bank, or 28v connector. I need to throw some batteries on it to see if the dc pump runs it any faster. The crane has USAF markings on it. Would have been nice to have had this a while back.

Anyone seen one of these before?

All I've got at the moment, and will have for a bit of it in action. I pulled the two leaking cyls off this afternoon to see about getting the seals replaced. But I do have a pic of it from the auction I won it off of.

BTW, that first pic has a upper and lower control arm, spindle, rotor, and caliper from a truck being suspended from the crane. I wanted to keep a load on the cable to keep it in the pulley tracks.

I think I picked this thing up for the right price. I just hope the repairs don't run that into the wrong price.

Does it have a data tag on it? Can you post a pic of it? What is the model number of this unit?

Have you found TMs for it? It looks like a fun tool.

A real time video of it going from transport to crane mode, would be cool to see.

Nice toy. I have had many a cylinder rebuilt or just repacked myself. If the cylinder bore isnt rusty or the piston rod badly damaged, it should be a cheap fix to replace the seals, packing and wipers with universal parts. Have fun with it.

I am jelouse, I have been looking for 1 for years, they are severly under rated for the weight. the DC side is about 2x faster but when your in a load situation fast is not all ways good. GOOD FIND Congrats..!

THats the first pic of one of those Ive seen. THe first time I saw one work was in the 90's about 98. A freind of mine was welding the bottom of a barge for a dock builder and putting up a militar surplus building in a gravel pit. I think his even had a 3phase converter to run it from a one of those small Gensets. They used it to put up the building and then put it in the corner Ill go check it out. Id like to have one for work to pull behind my service truck but Im insufficient funds at the moment lol. If its there Id be glad to help someone obtain it.

For what you paid, you stole it Even with the time/money that you put into it fixing seals, hoses and what not, it'll be worth many more times than what you'll ever have into it. You did good.

Doghead had a post in here but he deleted it. I wasn't ignoring you Doghead, it was just too dark to get the NSN off it last night at midnight. The NSN is 3950-01-093-3721. I don't have any TM's for it, but it'd be nice to find for the hydraulic side of things. I know there were a few other questions, but I don't remember off the top of my head.

Contract is F33657-75-C-0310, and it has a model number of 8935. I tried calling the number listed on the web for the company that made it but the number no longer works.

That's good to know. I noticed a 2400 or 2800 stamp on the DC motor, that's a good 1K RPM faster than the AC motor. I think I'm going to setup a slave port and maybe even add some batteries to it. Just need to find a slave port and slave cables now...

Guess you looked on ebay huh? My wife just kinda rolled her eyes when I informed her of the latest purchase. But for $500 I figured I could salvage parts off it and scrap it in the worst case.

I didn't think to take a pic of the name plate, I can if my last post didn't have enough info in it.

Once I get everything up to par on it, I'll make some videos. I really want to get the DC side up and running if it's faster than the AC side. Then it'll be "fun" to use.

I've got the leaking cyls in my truck I'll be taking them to a shop tomorrow to see if they can replace the seals.
