Scrapping rear axles

So I bought a rear axle that I wanted for the "chunk". I am pulling off the brake components and wanted to know if the hubs, drums, or spindles should be saved. I have spares of most of this stuff, so I don't really want it sitting around, but I don't want to get rid of it if someone could use it. Is it possible to grind the rivets out of the spindle and use it on a front axle?

Yes, the backing plates can be used on the front if you can filet the rivets. Everyone should carry a spare hub and bearings for roadside repairs. I should also note that storing your wheelbearing socket in your toolbox makes less sense than storing it in the truck.

The spindles are part of the housing but the backing plates are not.

Funny story, back in the day a friend of mine was building a toyota with deuce axles. He needed an extra shortside axle so a trip was planned to Sam Winers. After paying for the axle we went to meet the yardman to get the axle. Much to our surprise the guy brings up a complete front end and chops the housing tube inside of the steering knucke. We leave with a complete end of the axle housing.

While I am STILL working on making a tow bar out of a paper clip, our very own Kipman knows how to turn a tow bar INTO a paper clip!
