Just outlaw them, and shoot on sight with anti-tank weapons. Nobody who is legal needs such a thing, neither here nor there. For me, it's not a very inventive thing, its and out and out declaration of open warfare. One inch steel plates, but still normal tires. A good machine gun or a grenade underneath it should do the trick nicely, thank you.

Problem is, as long as there are rich and spoiled Europeans and Americans willing to pay crazy amounts to sniff something up their nose, the market will provide.

Would not mind getting into a discussion on that over a beer. Besides, I think many US citizens would agree with what I said (which was a bit black and white, I agree).

I focused more on its use than on its "BOBBED MV" character. Then again, you probably would not want that thing to turn up in your neighborhood either. It would be taking the 2nd amendment a bit far.

Some more details on those trucks. In another article, they mention that til now these vehicles are used ONLY in inter-gang wars and not against the army. Want to bet how long until that changes?

They have been looking too much to Mad Max and the A-team.

"The Mexican media call these Los Monstruos “tanks,” and not without reason. One discovered in April had room inside for 12 gangsters, with “two turrets on top and six lateral firing ports” built in. Others are cruder, resembling up-armored SUVs that can withstand “rounds from M-16 and AK-47s,” according to one report.
Still, our pal Paul McLeary thinks that’s not quite accurate — not least of which because these are wheeled vehicles, not tracked ones. A Monstruo captured last month looks “more like the down-on-its-luck little cousin of an MRAP or MAT-V than an Abrams or a Leopard,” Paul observes.

Either way, expect to see one of these on, say, season six of Breaking Bad".

Does that mean my Scorpion, Ferret, Fox, Dingo and V100 are to be outlawed and shot on sight too? :cookoo:

With all due respect, Sir, these targets are found in HOSTILE territory and therefore qualify as THREATS. Within our typical areas of operation, and the circumstances and modes in which we operate, our MVs are NO COMPARISON to the thread topic vehicles here.

Your raise a valid point of distinction that we MUST maintain here.

No it's not taking the second amendment too far. "People" are responsible for their actions, be it good or bad; not machines or inanimate objects. Do I want mexican drug lords in my neighborhood? Nope...... Would I care if one of my neighbors drove home in one of those? Nope, not at all. In fact, I'd probably walk over with a 6 pack and my angle grinder to help him clean up some of the welds.

I could care less what someone drives. If someone feels the need to protect themselves with armor plate, it is there right to do so; and no ones right to tell them that they can't.

There are guys on this board that have armored vehicles that could cause a lot more damage than those trucks. Should they have to prove a reason to own them?

Even with the MV's I own, I own them "just because". At the end of the day I couldn't care less about the historical value, the collectors aspect, or the military nature..... I like them because they are big, they are cool, and if I wanted to I could smash things with them. Until I smash my neighbors car, "why" I own them is nobodies business by mine.

I think this was the part of his statement that was bothersome.

I already tried to indicate and will say it clearly now; that statement was a bit too black and white, and everybody is welcome to its hobbies. Tanks are not my kick, but some of the tracked vehicles of our fellow SS members really look nice and my regret is that I never got a chance to race around in a tank.

Changing a truck into an armored vehicle to protect drug transports or fight out who will dominate the drug market and make the biggest profit shipping drugs to the USA is not a hobby but a THREAT that should be taken care off BEFORE it enters the country.

I did not want to get into it, but now I will make my opinion clear. I do up to a point agree with the second amendment. A lot of my US and Canadian friends have arms at home and I would like to go hunting with them if possible.

I do not agree with the idea of the second amendment as a free ticket for each and every individual to buy, have, and use whatever you want up to and beyond fully automatic heavy combat weapons. The amendment was never intended for that.

The idea that people are responsible for their own actions I agree with, but society has become too complicated for each individual to oversee all its complications and therefore some rules are introduced as compromise and to indicate borders SOCIETY agreed on. That those borders will infringe on personal freedom is clear, the discussion is where those borders should be.

On a lighter tone, I would probably come help you clean up the welding.

Of course armoring a truck to transport drugs is not a hobby. However if I wanted to up armor my A3 for fun, S**** and giggles, or to prepare for whatever paranoid fantasy I can think of....... it's still no ones business but my own.

........ I'd never let the thing outside with welds that look like those did though.

I like the way they had the fuel tank INSIDE the armored truck.......one lucky shot through a chink in the armor and you have a load of "Crispy Critters". Appearently safety is not a concern for the builders or the morons that drive these things.

This is a classic case of why we need to pull all of our troops out of foreign countries and bring them home to secure the borders.

The "war on drugs" is the biggest fraud perpetrated on the American public since Prohibition...you cannot legislate morality.

Either make the penalties so draconian that no one will traffic in, posess or use drugs or decriminalize them and let the junkies shoot, snort, smoke or drink themselves to death. Let Natural Selection take it's course.

That so called war has led to the loss of more civil liberties than any other program except the "War on Terrorism".
