CUCV black smoke,power loss?

My 1009 is starting fine, idling fine, but on the pedal produces alot of
black smoke, and not much power.
So far: new air filter, cdr valve was replaced approx. 1500 miles back,
thought it was the fuel filter so I changed to a spin on unit from a civilian
6.2 truck. Cleaned the fuel return check valve (it looked fine).
A little more history, I was running a 60 wmo/40 diesel mix,the problem started on the way home in 95 degree heat. I siphoned out the tank. Added 4 gallons of
fresh diesel from a can. Drove to a fuel station 3 miles away and the fuel cap was under vacuum? Added 10 more gallons drove the longer way home , (7 miles)
no repeat on the vacuum on the cap issue. I had been running the wmo mix for about 1200 miles with no issue, though it was the problem,but removing it
from the equation has not changed the symptoms. Please help!
Oh, it is an 85 with 65,000 on the clock.

What is your best guess at what % wmo is currently in the tank? It takes a couple of tanks to flush it all out. I would keep running straight Diesel, run it almost all the way out fuel then refill with Diesel only. Injector cleaner may not be a bad idea. Check the airfilter as well.

The fuel gauge showed below empty after the siphon, and less than 1/4 after the first 4 gallons,and
a little less than 1/2 after the second 10 gallons. I would say way less than 10% if that. It seemed
to be running fine on the mix, wondering if some injectors have failed?
ETA: In the last batch a small amount of new synthetic gear oil was used in
the mix?

WMO burns blue not black, overfueling blows black!

Sounds like IP pump is about to hack a hairball!

If you rebuild take it to a good shop that will flow it on a bench and adjust the flow at the respective govenor settings the same extra % as the viscosity of the amount of WMO you plan on running ( does that make since ) while in there get em to adjust the weights and various other parts that can make that DB2 Roosta Master rut its stuff!

Despite popular belief theres more to the pum to get poer out of it than turning up the fuel screw!:deadhorse:

If you run any amount of WMO / UVO filter, filter, filter, thats what is going to make this a cheap way to ride! Also spend the dimes on a quality fuel/water seperator, lots of water in stuff that sits behind someones garage for unknown periods of time!

If you pull the injectors and flow them as well to make sure they are at the optimmum specs, might want to look into changing tips for the extra viscosity of the WMO as well. THey can hone the stock ones as well and put different springs in them.:idea:

I'd suspect injector problems because black smoke=unburnt fuel. I bet you have one or more injectors peeing a stream instead of misting the fuel. This is a bad thing! If you drive it under this condition, the stream of fuel can cut through a piston like a torch!! Pull them out and bench test them.

You can build a homemade injector tester out of an old grease gun. Go to the nearest hose shop with an injector and the grease gun in your hand to have them build you a hose that threads0 onto the injector on one end, and the grease gun on the other end (and have them put a tee on it somewhere to thread on a gauge that goes up to 5000 PSI).

I drove it to work today. Seems to be smoking a little bit less, and making a little more power. Do you think I might have boogered the injectors from going to rich and having poor combustion?

I think after a couple of tanks with no wmo all will be normal.

If you are sure there is not blockage with the air then pop test the injectors. Sounds like the tips are wearing out.

You can run WMO in most diesels with no issues as long as its clean, clean, clean, clean. Adjust your ratios depending on the temperature outside. You can always run a heating system in your tanks. Oil has about the same viscosity as diesel at around 160 degrees.

I am filtering with bag filters @ 25, 10, 5, then 1 micron. Using a 75 micron first to catch the big stuff. Oh, and I have a large magnet in the first bag. Is there any place to get the injectors tested/repaired? Can't find anything local.
