The stock one is submersible. Won't charge underwater but will start working when it comes out. Don't know about the Delcos

What are you talking about my bracket is almost exactly like the stock bracket....You are confusing my brackets with the other guys stuff. Mine is nothing like wolverines brackets.. My brackets bolts on with the same three bolts that hold the stock bracket on and the adjusting arm goes on in the same location as stock? It is so simple a 8 year old could do it in less than ten minutes.Not to mention my brackets can be used with the 12 volt kit i sell or without it..
Maybe I'm mistaken. Does your system not mount the alternator with the single mounting tab down, the double tabs up and use an extension bracket that goes up to form a 90° angle to support the rear mounting tab?

Good point. I doubt the Delcos would like being dunked. I guess it's a good thing I have the cheap spare in the back. I'm pretty sure mine won't be getting dunked (on purpose).

Yes, I strongly suspect the mil-spec unit is a higher quality unit than the new ones.

That's not to say the new ones aren't fine for our uses....................

Does anyone have the pulley part # for the si21 alt
This is what I just bought, "24-1509 PULLEY". And he wanted to know 1) what belt type 2) how many grooves, 3) the diameter 3.5
Don't have it here yet so I can tell you any more about it.

I think that before I deplete my inventory of stock alts, I will invest in one of these.

My kit the alt mounts exactly like the stock one.The two mounting tabs are at the bottom Which is where it pivots the adjusting arm goes to the mounting tab on the top . It mounts to the stock holes on the block and water pump. My brackets are cut out on my plasma table and welded in a jig a built to make sure everything fits right the first time please go look at the pics posted in my classified add before making incorrect statements .The wolverine kit is the one you are thinking about it requires the alt to be reidexed.. MY brackets are nothing like his... I put the effort into the design to make it easier to change the primary filter and to make sure it mounts the same as the stock one and uses the same belt..My kit is also about half the price as the other ones out the

Some of the pros of the delco alt is you can get them new for $115. They are readily avialible at most truck parts store.They are less rotating weight- rob less power from the engine.As far as weather they hold up to undwater use.. i have never had an issue But i have gone thru three stock alts on my truck with no warrenty.. The delco has a warrenty.I think the delco unit is a little less likely to burn up due to having a bad battery like the stock 40+yr old gens...
Cost is a huge pro for the delco alt you can buy a new alt for the cost of a used stock unit and at least you know what you are getting..

The part number for the pulley depends on the bracket... there are different belt widths, different diameters,and different off sets.. the offset is the biggest issue.. I built my brackets to use the stock pulley as most guys will have the one off the old alt..I have found a few that are very close to the offset of the stock pulley.. The closest i found was off by 5 mm.It seemed a little pricey at 30+ bucks..

I stand corrected and offer an aplogy. I looked at your ad but the pictures are pretty fuzzy and out of focus so I guess I couldn't really tell how everything mounted up and having the dual alt setup in there kind of confused the issue even further. I may have mistaken yours for another that may have been listed elsewhere (besides wolverine). If I end up converting another truck, I will probably have to get your setup. The one I made was completely free but I no longer work where I had the equipment to make it, so yours is definitely the best option I've seen so far.

Again, my apologies.

With regard to pulleys, I opened mine up to 7/8" and also had to cut 1/4" off the back side of the spacer to align with the water pump. It puts the nut a little close to the fan but I haven't had any problems with it yet.

As far as alts going underwater, I will share my experiences from off-roading my XJ Cherokees, and my old K5. I have never killed an alt going through high waters. I have wondered if it took them a few mins to start charging again, but they always did. Thats of course not to say that they always will.

I believe my 91 XJ had the alt mounted low also (Its been a little while) and even the couple of times I hydrolocked the engine the alt was fine. Just pulled the plugs to let some water out and away it went!

Of course your mileage may differ, just didnt want people to assume just because it aint military it will crap out first time it gets soggy!

Loco - that's good to hear, thanks for sharing. I've mudded with Delcos but never flooded one. Just looking at the stock alt compared to the delco I replaced it with you can tell the stock alt is beefier and better built. That being said, I would have to fry a lot of these 120 dollar delcos to add up to one brand new factory alt. To me it's worth it. The weight savings, etc might be nice, but for me it boiled down to spare part replacement cost.

The second alt to run a few 12 volt goodies was mainly just to look cool. :)

****, my timing has been off lately. Just bought one last week, and it just arrived.

So . . . question, If I just bought an "advertised" Delco, why is it not marked as such? Came in a box marked World Power Systems / WPS.
Everything I've been able to find links them, is that who really makes Delcos? Or is this just a cheap copy?

If it's not marked either "AC Delco" or "Delphi", then it's not a factory part and is only a "Delco style" alternator. Not saying that there is going to be anything wrong with it, just hope you didn't pay a Delco price for it.
