M35 Replacement alternator

WPS is a product distributed by weatherhill and associates. Comes in a blue and yellow box. It will have a lester catalog number and then a "N" at the end. Delco will be in a red and black box labeled delco. What part # is it?

WPS is crap. I sell tons but it is because some people want it cheap. There are certain "aftermarket" manufactures that are decent. Let me know the part number so I know what I am looking at. My reman facilities use all OE components sometimes it is better to go reman than new china.

If it's not marked either "AC Delco" or "Delphi", then it's not a factory part and is only a "Delco style" alternator. Not saying that there is going to be anything wrong with it, just hope you didn't pay a Delco price for it.

Edit: Apparently WAI Global is the company who manufactures the WPS products. Strictly an aftermarket manufacturer.

I see alot of companies seeling name brand parts as theirs ... Alot of places buy ford parts and machine the ford logo and part number off and sell them really cheap..Same as ford buys borg warner parts and puts their logo on them...I also see places put delco or borg warner parts in their box and see it as theirs

Every now and then i will find "take-off" units that were installed at factory and then changed either for a different spec or manufacture and i will rebox under our part number but do not pass it on as OE. And that is automotive I have not seen any in the heavy duty side.

Where did you purchase the alt?
I got it off epay :oops: Didn't really have a choice, the contact that you gave me couldn't get me a pulley. I don't have any way to drill out the old one, or even get it off. I'm stuck up here w/o a shop. Now I hear that the pulley may not even have the right offset :cry:

The part # is 7197N

I'll get something working, need to get out of here and start moving south :driver:

not sure what you are replacing but the shaft size will be the same. If you can find some one with an impact it will take about 3 seconds to change. The alternator is a 27SI series been around forever. They run about $105 new so I hope you did not get stuck too bad. If you have a vise you can jam a screw driver into the front housing of the old alternator and use a ratched or wrench to get the pulley off. I dont know how big of boy you are but it will take some ass to break it free. Good luck. Let me know if I can help.

Given the location of this thread within the forum, it would probably be safe to assume he is replacing a stock alternator on an M35A2 or M35A3, which has a 5/8" pulley shaft. As far as I know, the 21SI, 22SI and 27SI replacements all use a 7/8" pulley shaft.

LowTech: with the new pulley on the new alternator, measure the distance from the front mounting surface to the outside of your pulley. Measure the same dimension on the stock system. If it sticks out too far, you're kind of screwed but if it's too short, you can always add a washer or two behind the pulley to make up the space. I modified the stock pulley but it was about a quarter inch too long, so I had to cut it down on a lathe. I did cut another one down to the same dimensions, so if you absolutely cannot get anything to work, leet me know and we can talk about maybe getting a modified stock pulley to you.

****, my timing has been off lately. Just bought one last week, and it just arrived.

So . . . question, If I just bought an "advertised" Delco, why is it not marked as such? Came in a box marked World Power Systems / WPS.
Everything I've been able to find links them, is that who really makes Delcos? Or is this just a cheap copy?
Last I checked Accel and Delco are made by GM.

I'm doing the same install. That wire goes to nothing in this set-up.
Are you able to get movement out of the alt in that position? I'm having to move my primary filter mount rearward.

I got movement but it is pushing up against the lower radiator hose. It's a very snug fit. I also had to use shorter 7/16" bolts to mount the lower bracket to the engine block. I'll probaby move my filter as well in the future. Thanks for the answer on the wire question. It was driving me nuts.

I moved my primary back one hole when I installed my alt. Just seemed like the sensible thing to do. At the same time, I also moved the fuel line from the bottom of the engine crossmember to the back of it. The lines are only copper and they bend very easily. Mine already had a flat spot where it had gotten snagged on something.

Same here, one hole back. Will be replacing the line from the primary on and moving it behind as well because of that same thing, it's been dented.

Finished my install. Here's the issue. There is a wire that plugged into the old military generator and I have no idea where it goes on the civilian or if it's even used
Your install is correctExcept you need both belts on there and you need to install the nut and lock washer on the bolt going through the adjusting arm into the alt.. The small wire is not used as the alt is a one wire alt.. All that needs to be hooked up is the ground and the main hot wire which you have properly installed.

Lowtech my brackets are built to use the stock pulley that has been drilled to 7/8 with the stock belts ..If you use different belts or pulley you most like will have issues .. When it is all installed correctly the adjusting bolt will fall right in the middle of the slot in the adjusting arm and you will have more clearance to get at the bolt to change the primary filter ... If you use different stuff than it was designed to use it may swing the alt closer to the filter and cause the issues you are having...This seems to be the issue you are having .. If you are set on sticking with that pulley you have on there in the pics you sent me you will probably need to move the pulley forward 5mm and get shorter belts to fix the issue... LIke i said they are made to use the stock stuff..

The prob that I had is that the alt had less than an inch of movement between the rad hose and the primary mount.

I pulled the primary and did the same thing that Goldwing2000 did, moved it back one hole. Now I just need some spacers and I'm good to go. :)

I'm quite happy w/ the bracket that I got from you, it just seems like my primary is farther forward than what it shows in the TM. I had less than a finger width between the mount and the support for the brushguard. Moving it was not that hard (easier than trying to drill out the center of a pulley in the wild w/ no drillpress) and now I have loads of room.

Your Filter housing does apprear to be father forward than mine is on my truck... My filter housing is just behind the part of the bracket where the lower rear mounting tab on the alt is.

Make sure you check the terminals on these civilian alternators. The one I bought had a loose terminal that required me to open the case and tighten it from the inside. If I hadn't caught this it would have burned the terminal up. This was an alternator from an outside vendor, not TM America. His product has worked very well.
