One thing to keep in mind about the towing or tow bar. IF it is drained there may not be any oil in the differentials and the driveshafts would have to be removed to keep the dry transmission from turning.

Rick
It would also need gear oil put in the rear ends for anything other than a very short distance.

Umm, That is what I said. Differentials = Rear ends.

Rick
You mention there may not be oil in them , but no mention of putting it in . pulling the driveshafts will stop the transmission from turning , but you need to pull the axels for the rearends to stop . And doesn't the 900 series use a wet bearing that needs the oil in the rearend to get lubracation ?

OK, You got me on a technicality:-D. Yes they are wet bearings and if the truck has sat for many months then any lubricant will have drained off and what is left will not do a lot of good, especially on the differential (Rear end) gears. I suggested the shafts because of the tranny being drained a lot of damage could be done quickly if towed.

OK....I'm not busting your chops here....just making an observation.....because this comes up a lot on this site.

How much homework did you do before you bid on the truck? Did you check transportation costs to get it back to your LZ via commercial shipping? Did you check into getting it moved off post until you can recover it? Did you post a thread asking if there was a member in the area that could assist in a recovery?

I learned a lot when I accidently bought four trucks at one time in Arkansas and had to go recover them. I also got sticker shock when the M816 I bought at Camp Shelby, MS proved to have a deadlined engine. The freight back to Alabama on that one was almost half as much as what I paid for the truck.

You big issue is getting it off post before your removal time expires.....they might give you one extension but don't count on it. If you can make that happen then you will have some breathing room.

If I were closer I'd take the M915 up there and at least get it off post.

I no longer bid on vehicles that I can't preview or are not close to me because of issues like this.

The bargain you got on the truck may fade as the real cost of getting it home grows.

You are not the first to have this issue and prob won't be the last.....and you'll find that folks here will do all they can to assist to you.

Best of luck getting her home.

Well we got the truck yesterday, rolled it off the lowboy and found about $2000. worth of damage.
One of the guys down there must have backed into the front end while getting something out. the right corner is caved in about 5 inches.
Now I have to file a claim and tru and get them to do something.

Was the damage reported and documented at the site BEFORE it was loaded, was the truck accepted in this condition, may be hard to file a claim if not, GL has NO WAY to know that the damage DID NOT happen on your end or that the truck driver did not do it loading, also thay can claim that was the condition at sale (unless YOU took preview pics), because GL states "PREVIEW RECOMMENEDED because description MAY NOT be accurate and the pic MAY be a representative pic"

And they are also known not to use the correct photo in the GL ad. It doesn't happen very often but it does happen.

Good luck with the claim.

The only thing about that is, the #'s on it match.
Also the right front tire is desert sand and the rest are black in the photos, snd the same truck is in my driveway. I am sure it is the same truck.
