    M1009 as a daily driver

I've put 3 years and 21,000 Miles on my M1009. Wouldn't trade it for anything. I live practically in the arctic for 3 months of the year, so mine has 2 x 600 watt block heaters (one on each side). Starts up no problem. :)

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

How'd DogHead feel about that? Sorry guys, couldn't help it :P.

    Tires for M1009

My 1986 M1009 clears BFG TA/KO 33X10.5R15's on stock rims with stock suspension. They don't rub at all. Unless maybe I hit a speedbump with the wheel totally cranked at a good speed. Even during offroading they haven't been a problem. Great all around tire. Do well on ice too (very important up...

    GMC Brigadier

Looks like the Chevy C60 with a sleeper cab and setup as a semi (I've only seem flatbeds & dump-trucks around here).

    Dana 44 swap, M1010

If I really needed higher gears and never used 4X4, I would remove the front drive shaft (between front axle & t-case) and just run it like a 2 wheel drive with higher gears only in the back. That way, after I had the cash for a trans swap or proper re-gear for both axles, I wouldn't have to...

    Name that missing relay

Those are common relays on GM stuff. I have a bag of them I got at a wrecker. Any run-of-the-mill 12volt relay from gm that fits in the socket should work fine. Shouldn't matter that it switches 24volts. If in doubt check the schematic diagram on the side of the relays to confirm that the...

    The Umptilionth "First CUCV Thread"

I would agree that this new member's post came off a little arrogant, but at the same time I don't think we should jump on his back or ban him. One thing I really like about this forum is that almost every single member is fairly humble. It's very rare that I see the wages of members in posts...

    Battery Advice needed

Aren't "Red Tops" Starting batteries? Starting batteries generally don't last very long with Inverters or any other "high amperage for a long time" loads (Hydraulic power packs, winches, ton's of lights, etc). Might want to find some deep cycles (my favorite are golf-cart batteries) to run your...

is it ok to have the glow plugs wired like this?

10 seconds on the glow plugs even sounds on the long side to me, unless it's REALLY cold. My CUCV starts firing in less than a second, even when it's very cold outside. Sounds like a "fuel leak/check valve/fuel line sucking air" problem. I'd recommend the resistor bypass too, unless you live...

    6.2 questions from a new-guy

I can confirm, the 6.2 Diesel IS NOT a 454 block. It's block was purpose built as a diesel. It wasn't the best design, as the main bearing webs have a tendency to crack off the block. The reason seems to be that there just isn't enough metal right where the webs meet the rest of the block (if...

    6.2 questions from a new-guy

If someone is used to a gas engine and doesn't treat a 6.2 like a diesel, it won't last very long. This doesn't make the 6.2 a bad engine, it makes whoever abused one a bad operator. They need more time to warm up before you drive them (if you want them to last) and they do not like high RPM's...

    Fuel question

DEF has water in it: "Diesel Exhaust Fluid, also called DEF, is a solution made up of purified water and 32.5 percent automotive-grade urea that is used as a carrying agent for the ammonia needed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from vehicles into nitrogen, water and carbon dioxide...

is that a bug out truck

^I'd have to agree 100%. Also, FYI (Directed at the OP) the reason for the eyerolling about bug out vehicle threads is that there used to be a few of those threads on the go, one in particular that was ridiculously long (I imagine they still come up on the search). As I understand it, we were...

    Southern CUCV Urban Camo M1008

I was just going to ask the same question! Are those 37's? Where'd you get them. I need some just like those, whatever they are. They look great!
