Best way to get that separator off is to get the strap wrench up high, at the 'base' of the filter, and apply slow steady pressure. It will move a little at a time. The lower end of the filter is the weakest part, that's why they collapse.

Kroil=ok, PB blaster=much better. Buy a set of 'hurricane" sockets and pound the right size one on. Heat is your friend.

Triton, sorry but no. The Dixon part did not fit the wix/napa filter. I am convinced that wix has used some hokey china pipe thread that only works with the POS plastic plug they put in the filter. All those fittings I bought (threw all the filter out) sit in a dusty and dirty sealed plastic...

From what I read in the TM, the aux pump should keep the day tank at 3/4 full. Mine comes on at a little over 1/2 tank and stops at 3/4.

My daily drivers get Intersate, My race car and 803 get red tops. 2 reasons. One, red tops seem to last the longest, but more importantly, do not fume sulfuric acid inside the unit, so no more rusted battery trays or green terminals.

Having been an auto mechanic for the last 35 years, I've learned a couple things... A. The screwdriver "trick" rarely works works. B. A slow steady pull almost always works. C. Keep dynamite handy. One stick, taped to the side of a real stubborn filter, works EVERY time.

If you don't mind a "few" cough cough, scratches on your arm, you can get a filter wrench through from the front of the unit (open the door for the load panel). No piece of cake and make sure to grab the filter as high up as possible, preferably the very top at the gasket, and work it off...

Yes, pjwest, that is what I found also. They are sending me one to try, just have to work out the o-ring details. I'm also going to use a brass fuel shut off instead of the petcock style drain originally in the unit. Will get pics of the setup when it's done. Thanks!

It should fit Wix and Napa filters. All the other brands seem to have some type of left hand coarse thread thumbwheel that cannot be removed. I have not yet tried the Dixon fitting. By looking at it, it should work with an o-ring. I will order some soon and submit them to some testing before...

Thanks eaton, good to know. I did check fleabay, but I still don't always trust what is on e-bay. I am still going to pursue the adapter. I can buy Wix separators for 11 dollars at any local parts store.
