    I want a deuce

Yeah, I'm in around $4000 or so on mine,(1971 air shift winch truck) everything works well, newer soft top & rear cargo cover. I've got around 1000 miles on mine, without needing a lick of maintenence. I've done two winch recoveries so far as well(LOL, one was a friends tow truck that got stuck...

    I want a deuce

I drive mine to work occasionally, in Auburn Hills, to club meetings in the metro area, to Home Depot for lumber runs, etc. We were in the Waterford Memorial Day Parade this year as well. I really enjoy driving it on sunny days, with the top off and the windshield glass folded out..... If...

    Winch Help.

To be more specific, when you say it can't freewheel... there are two controls on the winch: One is the large clutch engagement level on the top, and the other is the small t-handle to freewheel the drum (be able to pull it out by hand). Which isn't working for you, I'm guessing the top...

    Doh! moment

lol, I drove mine for the first time in a few weeks, made it to the end of the sub in 4th gear before figuring out I was in low range.. I *was* a little sleepy..

to those of you who have changed tires

To break beads, I've always put a large piece of square steel tube on the tire just at the bead. Slide the tire under the bumper of the truck, use a hi-lift jack, base on the steel tube, and then jack under the bumper. The tire will break the bead before the truck is lifted. Haha, most of the...

    engine surging

Interesting, I had some surging last night as well, mine seemed fine up until about 2000-2100, then a little funny at the top end...

    Tow Chains for the Deuce

All that said, I keep proper sized chain (I use 3/8" properly rated for Jeeps/trucks), and use it as a choker, winch rigging, etc. Just don't use them to snatch. Its funny, that most people respect/fear winching, but the majority of accidents that I see are caused by something failing during...

    Tow Chains for the Deuce

It certainly happens. A guy here in MI died a year or two back at a bog, I don't remember if it was a clevis or trailer ball that came loose and killed him. The wife of an ex club-member of mine got hit by a shackle in the neck, she was in the hospital for a while but survived. There are safe...

    Tow Chains for the Deuce

Absolutely go for a recovery strap (I'd be considering a 6" strap here) or a properly sized synthetic rope. And don't ever connect two straps together with a metal object. YOu can loop them together, with a stick of wood inbetween to prevent the knot from getting pulled so tight that you...

    Bent bumper

Sounds good. I've used a heavy beam, chains, and a large bottle jack to straighten all types of things, including bent axle housings. Sometimes a little heat helps.

    Where to buy a Deuce

Being honest, I'd be really careful before buying, then, if you've got that find of home owners association. A Deuce is a bit over 9ft tall, when the bows are on the back. And being honest, they are LOUD. I drove mine to my bowling league yesterday, because I bowl with some Vietnam vets who...

    Where to buy a Deuce

You kinda have 3 options, and you need to be realistic on your time and money availalbe, and your expectations. 1) Buying through GL. Probably the cheapest possible way to get one. Maybe a crapshoot on what you get, and how long it takes to get it. There's a good chance this will cost you more...

    Width question

Another good tip for getting the nuts started, if you don't have air tools. Consider this a poor man's impact. Get your standard breaker-bar with a 5ft cheater pipe, and put it on there. But, instead of pushing, standing, sitting, bouncing on it, etc., try hitting the end a few times HARD with...
