That's the one. There is not room to remove the C6 clutch housing while the transmission and transfer case are in the truck, apart from removing or modifying frame components that are in the way.

This is why I advocate giving Allison your particular transmission serial number and getting the transfer case parts list for your particular truck. When you re-order the bearing part, they should automatically give you the thrust washer if it applies, as they did with us.

Who knows, you might have witnessed the bearing fail before any other damage was done. That would be great. But I don't know any way to be sure but look. That's why we just took the whole thing apart. But I don't regret the rebuild. We learned a lot and now have a lot of confidence in the...

I think I should note that if your C6 clutch cover was damaged on the inside as ours was, it could take a lot of work or money to get a replacement. Allison could probably get you one pretty fast, but they want a fortune for it ($2000+). We found a used one from Xcalliber for $700+, but I think...

Ha. Well. We didn't have any transmission repair experience and needed the TMs. Of course there are better people out there. We just didn't want to pay them, and weren't afraid to try. Without the TMs, we wouldn't have.

If you give your transmission serial number to the Allison dealer in your area, they can print you out the applicable transfer case diagrams and parts lists from their parts catalog.

We used the TMs on this website to do the transmission repair, which I think are for the A0, and we have an A1 truck. There were some differences, but the TMs still worked for us.

UPDATE: I received the paint chip set today, and the paint color numbers I was given by the paint seller are indeed the correct colors for my 2003 LMTV: 911-Black, 34094- Green, and 30051-Brown.

A guy on ebay is selling a set of Gillespie military paint chips (seller: wcfr4). I ordered the set to visually confirm my paint colors before I order paint. When I wrote the sellers, they said the LMTV paint colors were: "The code numbers are 911-Black, 34094- Green, and 30051-Brown"...

Thanks. Now I have to figure out what black/brown/green camo paint is on a 2003 M1078. I would like it to match the rest of the truck. Anybody know? I am hoping Gillespie makes them in rattle cans. I think I only need a few. I have searched around SS for the answer, but I haven't found it...

Thanks, but can you clarify this a little? Are you listing three different methods of removing the red paint, or are saying I should do all three of those in that order?

I bought an LMTV from a volunteer fire department that spray painted the front and sides of the cab bright red. It is a horrible paint job: no apparent prep, sloppy masking, etc. The red paint is peeling in some places, like around the handles and lights...but everywhere else seems pretty...

As I mentioned before, we've had a '66 M35A2 and our current 2003 M1078A1. Since we bought the LMTV in early summer and have not done any work with it so far, here are my human-factor observations. First, the LMTV is quiet enough in the cab you can actually hold a conversation. I don't know...
