    M1009 Steering "Delay" or "Shift"

From the sound of it, my mechanic lifted the front up and I suspect he disconnected the steering linkage(im betting tie rods Then he tried to turn the wheels by hand, which should move freely when disconnected. One would not move at all. The made it one of two things, bad ball joints or...

    M1009 Steering "Delay" or "Shift"

Update- It ended up being an axleshaft u-joint. Thanks!

    M1009 Steering "Delay" or "Shift"

I also was referring to the axleshaft u-joints, not the driveshaft joints. That is a great point about them having turn, even when the hubs aren't locked-I never thought of that. It would make sense, since it doesn't do it on every turn. I'll disagree with you on the clicking/squeaking...

    M1009 Steering "Delay" or "Shift"

Hmmm. I don't know what role the u-joints would play, especially with the hubs unlocked. I've had u-joints go on several jeeps, and usually they click and clack, but do not effect steering in a way I am experiencing. The hub bearings take the vehicle weight, while the ujoints generally deal...

    M1009 Steering "Delay" or "Shift"

I checked for the cracking, and it was solid. I just took it for another ride. It's really very odd. When you start to turn the wheel, you feel a little resistance, but the vehicle continues straight. When you continue turning, it gets easier all of a sudden, and it's almost like the vehicle...

must be the steering box. ball joints and all other linkage looks solid.

    M1009 Steering "Delay" or "Shift"

Hi all, After some searching, and coming up empty handed, I figured I would ask. My M1009 recently started acting strange while making turns. Sometimes when I turn the wheel, it doesn't start to steer the vehicle right away. It feels as if the front end "shifts" and then starts to turn. I...

    Block heater

Another update: I have installed the circulating Tank Style heater. It works fantastic. It needs to be mounted pretty low in the engine bay, so directly behind the radiator works well. I had to remove the fan shroud. I had planned on modifying the shroud to fit around the heater, but will...

    Missing Shock Bolt

I can't believe I forgot-it's a 1009....which means I am missing part of the shock. I am thinking if I purchased a new shock, that "bolt" would slide out, and I could use it until I can replace the whole thing when it isn't sleeting... Thanks for the TM manual number. I have now downloaded it...

    Missing Shock Bolt

We've got some nasty weather scheduled to arrive when I am able to work on the truck. Not having a garage makes it especially fun-so I was just curious if anyone else had this happen and could save me some time. It doesn't hurt to ask!:)

    Missing Shock Bolt

Does anyone know the dimensions of the upper rear shock bolt? Mine fell out this past weekend. Searches didn't produce any results. Weather being what it is-I'm trying to avoid removing the other one, or finding something "close" Thanks!

    Strange Vibes when accelerating

If it only occurs in a situation where you are accelerating (not coasting) then I suspect driveshaft u-joints.

    Block heater

Reporting back the results of the 600w inline radiator hose heater: I'm sad to say, it isn't good. Perhaps I have a bad heater, but when I went out this morning, I felt no recognizable heat anywhere, including near the heater itself. I am going to get a circulating heater and be done with it...

    M1008,,what a trooper! Starting at 16 deg...

Doghead, have you heard of any situations where the military bypassed the resistor? If I remember right, I have a wire coming directly from the battery to the GP relay to provide 12V-and that's the way it was when I picked it up after the auction.

    Block heater

I just put in that exact heater yesterday. I will let you know how it works. I positioned it right by the water pump before the first curve in the radiator hose. Because heat rises, this should keep most of the energy in the engine, and not the radiator. While it may not keep the engine as...
