CUCV M1009, Gen 2 Light on...

Only 24 volt stuff runs off bat 1 and bat 2 in series, which on the CUCVs will only be the glow plugs (which have a resistor to reduce 24 volts to 12 volts...but that doesn't really matter for this situation), starter, and blackout lights (and military radios, the NATO slave cable, and some...

M1031 is it a good 18ft camper tow rig?

DXTAC has interesting comments about mileage. My 1008 gets about 13 mpg when I'm pulling the trailer. Without the trailer is about the same. Mileage seems to improve a little on trails. Maybe due to lower speeds and no traffic lights.

Our First Road Trip of the Summer

Highteckken that is awesome. I want to get a train car and make a guest house out of it. Probably some rule against it. But it would be cool.

Restoring a train car? Do tell... I used to fire @ Golden Spike National Historic Site and @ Heber Valley Historic Railroad. I love old railroad paraphernalia as much as I love military paraphernalia.

Our First Road Trip of the Summer

File:Pony Express Trail Through Utah.png - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I wish I could find a map integrated with a roadmap. The stagecoach inn in Fairfield looks cool. Let me know when you get your trip planned. It should be pretty fun.

Our First Road Trip of the Summer

I've been looking online at that Butterfield Stage Trail. East of SLC it passes fairly close to where I live. So now I have to go find it. I better pack some reserve fuel, as it looks like you might could go a ways between stations.

Our First Road Trip of the Summer

No. I'm an implant to Utah, so I'm still learning a lot. But I'm gonna Google it. When I do take that trail, I'll post something here. One that I really want to check out is the old Uintah Railroad. The roadbed is still there and supposed to be a cool 4x4 trail. What I have learned so...

Our First Road Trip of the Summer

Utah truly is a primo place for trail riding. It really is beautiful country. Sometimes I make my fiance' drive so I can sit in the troop seats with the kids. The open view is awesome. You contact me next time you're in Utah, we'll find a trail to explore.

Our First Road Trip of the Summer

Utah's Twelve Mile Canyon. An awsome weekend. Hot and sunny at the bottom of the mountain, snow at the top. Snow and rain the morning of the 2nd day, then sunny by afternoon. All in all a great time!

    Troop Seats Refinished

maddawg308, have you disassembled your seats yet? I was sure I'd have to replace 100% of the wood. But once I took it all apart and stripped a few pieces I decided it was in pretty good shape. I don't know what kind of paint they used, but the way it cracks and peels makes it look like the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

It's been 1 year this month since I got my M1008. In that time I've painted it, put in a civi hitch and wiring, replaced the radiator, replaced the hoses, replaced the belts, put on some decent off road tires, and refinished the troop seats. Below is the url for the troop seat rebuild...

    Troop Seats Refinished

Boiled linseed oil is a wood preservative. Instead of painting the seats I wanted to keep them rustic looking. The reason is I never saw nice pretty troop seats even when these trucks were new. They were always nasty peeling splinters in your ass. I wanted to get rid of the splinters, but...
