Funny, I heard on the scanner someone with a siren was chasing people... At least that what the Washington State Patrol was saying... Somewhere on SR3...

The knob is lockwired to disable the siren tones- only airhorn works. The MAN button with the knob in RAD just tests the speakers, no sound is audible.

Replaced the glow plugs, as they had all burned out. Starts much easier. I was soooooooo happy that none were swelled. It was still incredibly tedious to get them out and replaced, with most of the work done w/ a 3/8 combination end wrench.
Also figured out that the garage that installed my new steering pump didn't space it correctly, and that is why my serpentine belts were getting chewed up and thrown. Now I can run a belt without damage or self uninstallation. After adding three 3/32" washers to move it backwards the pulley is now in line with the others.
Was also able to confirm the (sad) news that my water pump is leaking, once the truck came up to temp and pressurized the system. Now I will begin removing the hood and cooling stack to get a new pump on it. Folks tell me it's a 10 hour job. I hope that's all it is...
I still intend to make Graves Mountain Rally, in this HMMWV.

It took me more than 12h to change the water pump on a 6.5. I’m not a pro and not really equipped though. That same m1045 after a motor swap had a belt issue where both the steering and A/C compressor were poorly aligned, that seems to be a common theme with garages!

I hear ya. Since I'm not a professional, and doing this outside with standard tools, I expect 10 hours is unlikely for me too. I'm going to call in favors to increase manpower on it, hoping that will help.

Is that Whelan 24v or are you using a 12v inverter/power supply? Just curious as to how many amps it draws?
On my to do list as I was given an old police 12v unit and 6 of the square bumper speakers.

It's a 12v model that has two 100 watt outputs. I run it through a 12v power supply (I forget the brand - it's a blue box that does 70amps?). I have no idea what the siren unit draws but it isn't that much; they recommend a 30amp fuse. This is the siren unit I had in my M1009 previously.
What model do you have? Some have one 100watt output and others two. More speakers aren't louder if there is only one output, and multiple speakers apparently need to be phased properly to be loud at all.

Does the Whelan have provision for a horn button? I normally use a Motorola unit (100/130W is enough for me)
I find it handy that the functions can be programmed into the radio control head and the siren unit can be located with the radio drawer unit.
Having said that I have some Whelan boxes, if they were all not in that bunch of "stuff" I threw away a couple months back.

I'm not sure what you mean, the horn button is labeled HORN right on the face of the unit. Are you talking about the horn-ring function, where you hit the horn button on the steering wheel and the siren or airhorn sound? It has that, and I used it in the M1009 but will not use it in the HMMWV; I like the cheesy meep of the stock horn, and sometimes it's a better option.
The Whelen will also route the radio speaker output to the siren speakers so you can monitor the radio while you're away from the vehicle; I'm not using that function at the moment.
I have a SmartSiren (stashed in the garage) that uses a remote faceplate and it features several aux switches that can be used to switch lights or whatever. I programmed the siren sounds to be nonfunctional when I had it briefly installed in my CUCV in case a cop wanted to make an isue of it. I'm keeping that unit in case some cop does make an issue of it since technically sirens are not allowed in private vehicles in WA. I'm hoping the lockwire that disables them in mine are good enough, but if not I'll swap over to the SmartSiren which cannot sound a siren tone without extensive reprogramming.
I have about 80% of what I'd need to install a real big-rig airhorn setup (the 3' long horn, tank, valves, and solenoid powered valve) that's also very loud, but the siren unit is far easier to install and gives me PA if I have something that needs saying loudly.

I am not sure as it packed away gathering dust but it looked like your unit but I am not sure either on the inputs? Thanks for the info.
I was thinking of just 2 speakers in the front but not sure where those bad boys would go as I have a hydraulic winch and not sure how much room I have.
Where are your speakers and can you share how you mounted?

I like the Motorola stuff as I have been working with it for over 40 years, being able to control the siren functions (also has PA and external speaker control etc. and a cross band mobile repeater from the control head is handy (external speaker not necessary when equipped with a cross band repeater) they also have an add on switch box that matches the control head in case you run out of buttons on the control head, but some heads have allot of usable buttons and the later model ones have scroll-able menus, although I find that takes too much attention away from driving.

I had something like that and I opened it up and removed the electronics inside for the siren... just had the loud speaker and horn... but that was many years ago...

This reminds me of an old (maybe 20 year old) federal police box and speaker that were given to me. Back then I only had the Wyllis which wasn't a fit.

My replacement tires from Feltz tires came in yesterday (unfortunately the top tire got damaged in transit, the shipping company employees must have put another pallet on top and gauged the sidewall pretty deep. Now I am waiting what Feltz tires is going to do to get a replacement out here...
I opted for the newer DOT dates, 90%, mounted on 24 bolt rims. After the one old tire I replaced a while back, the cost for the newer rim is negligible compared to the work I put in. Glad I got to do it at least once, not looking forward to do it again.
They got mounted right away (all but the 1 damaged) and made a huge difference in ride quality and smoothness. All are pretty well balanced, one of them has 20 ounces of weights, but it still did the trick. If the change from the old Wrangler MTs to the newer Bajas made that much of a difference, I absolutely understand all those that are happy they deleted the run-flats or opted to go for the civilian tires... Awesome!

It's a messy dirty annual job, but the truck needs to be greased. It's easier when you have a buddy who has the same truck you do.
Big parts load this weekend.
Green 4 pack top and cargo cover (in really rough shape). Tan 4 pack top and rear curtain (both need some restitching and clean up).
NOS pioneer kit rack.
NOS (I think) turbo BFT tray. I'm really not sure if I want to use this or not. It's not period correct for my plan but it will give me a nice place to put in some sort of locking storage box.
No pic of the Scepter MFC I scored.
Out the door price for everything is what makes me happy - about $650 altogether!
