ARB Air Locker RD145 Install Thread - Pics and Tips

We're adding ARB air lockers to our deuce rear diffs and have just come across having to press out the main shaft out of the third member. We are stripping it all the way apart so we can sand blast and paint or powder coat too while apart. Do you know what size/strength press it would take...

What size press for a deuce?

We are rebuilding the rear end of the deuce and have come across the third/top member gear shaft that the tm says needs to be put on a press to push out the shaft. My question is, how much force does that require and is there anything else I need a press for on the deuce? I'm considering picking...

    Axle U-bolt Replacement

Fortunately, I ventured forward and found Oregon Spring Company in Portland will make me a new set of four (4) (for the rear springs, not the fore) for $88 for all four. (just wanted to see how many times I could use 4 in the sentence). Thanks yall for the "feedback" on pricing  It pays to...

Ouverson axle shaft but no thrust washer?

Just for future inquiries, Steve said: "These axles are 4340 heattreated ad made with no thrust washer. The face is made to do the same thing as the stock shaft." So looks like the problem is solved!. Many thanks to everyone sharing their wealth of information.

Ouverson axle shaft but no thrust washer?

I upgraded my front end to Ouverson replacement alloy axle shafts. However, while the original axles have a shoulder milled into them to hold a thrust washers, the new Ouverson's don't have any such thing and so no way to put the thrust washers back on. Has anyone else dealt with this? Can I put...

Any Deuce Mechanics in SW WA?

My M35a2 has been down for repairs for about 6 months and I've got the front axle out, differential rebuilt, all parts powder coated or painted and partially put back together. But due to an injury, I won't be able to work on it for most of the rest of the year and would like to get it back...

Front Leaf springs and center bolt

I seem to have lost the bolt that went down the center of the stack of front leaf springs as show in TM9-2320-209-20p illustration 146. I looked up the part # 5306-00-930-5083 at parttarget.com and it says it's a 5-1/4" machine bolt with 1-1/4" max thread (24). So my questions is, assuming I can...

Fair Price for a half Track

We compromised and I ended up paying him a small restocking fee to keep it. Probably didn't have to but I also didn't want to burn any bridges (turns out he is local, just the half track isn't) nor have my ebay rating knocked down. Anyway, he said he'll re-list it this weekend in case anybody is...

Fair Price for a half Track

Can't get anything else down there except maybe a steel tracked bulldozer. It is too wet steep and slippery. Even a bulldozer in mud on the side of a hill isn't going have much traction to pull it up. The tractors have difficulty getting out of there by themselves. We should have some dry...

Fair Price for a half Track

Dunno, seems a bit heavy at 9-10 tons but maybe. If the deuce brakes can handle it, you'd probably be all right though you'll be going up the hills in first gear I'd think. Do you have a capable trailer?

Fair Price for a half Track

Thanks for the offer to help with the deuce. I tried again yesterday to extract her and made it another 20 feet but the ruts are getting deep enough the pumpkin balls are starting to drag. I'm just going to let her sit until things dry out. It's on a farm so no hurry. If I get her out and can...

Fair Price for a half Track

Thanks for all the offers to store it for me. You guys are all heart! :-D I have also learned it is in Cali when he sent me a shipping quote for another 12% or so. There is a little note he added at the bottom of the listing but the header said it was in Portland. I think the extra for shipping...

Fair Price for a half Track

It would be better if they made steel tracks for it. Around here we get bulldozers stuck 5 months out of the year. Lots of rain, clay soil and steep hills makes for interesting off road driving here in SW WA. Truck has been stuck halfway down a hill for two weeks now. It has a winch too but...

Fair Price for a half Track

So in a fit of anger after getting my deuce stuck in the mud, I put a bid in on a half track on ebay. Being only $500 above the previous bid when the reserve was not yet met and 3 days before the end of auction I never imagined I'd actually win it. So at $19k for a 1941 M1 white halftrack w/w...
