new guy with a mep 005a

Well, I spent a few minutes of engineering time and figured out what the check ball really seems to do. The observation that the fuel return line T's into the outlet of the solenoid is correct (of course) and that line is under some positive pressure. Fuel from that solenoid is only partially...

new guy with a mep 005a

I have been working with the Stanadyne (Rooster) pumps for many years as well, and this is the first I've ever heard of this 'problem.' My understanding for the check ball is that because the day tank gravity feed being higher than the injection pump, and the injectors being higher, this check...

new guy with a mep 005a

Can you cite an authoritative reference for the above statement(s)? For the record, a diesel engine can't "run lean".

You do have 24 volts on the shutoff solenoid, right? Do you hear it click when energized?

    MEP005A Spin On Oil filter

I don't think it would be necessary to machine anything. The engine used has lines to the canister filter, all you need is something with compatible fittings (which should not be difficult at all.) I have such an adapter sitting on a shelf, maybe I'll check to see if the fitting size is the same...

    MEP005A Spin On Oil filter

Good thread, I'd like one for my MEP-004 (same filter as the 005). Those canister filters are a real PITA to get leak free.

    MEP005 head on a MEP815

There are some standards for attaching heads, so it may be possible. Certainly worth looking into.

    gov liq. question

Actually, that's a nope... Auction terms clearly state as-is, where-is, you must inspect and the description is only as a guide, not authoritative. AFAIK, the only way to get them to refund is if something happened after inspection (such as someone coming in and damaging the item, or removing...

    MEP-005 Fuel Injection Pump

Uh, no, it is gravity feed to the injection pump. The circuit is: main fuel tank, Fuel pumps (series), strainer, filter, solenoid, day tank. Day tank is non-pressurized. From the day tank to the final filter (gravity feed) to the injection pump. From the Injection pump via the fuel return line...

    MEP-005 Fuel Injection Pump

    1. Top of lever to rear of engine, or bottom of lever to rear of engine? If you got it backwards by accident that will result in these same symptoms. 2. Check, carefully, the fuel return lines from the injection pump, especially the check ball. If the fuel return is blocked, it will not...

New (to me) MEP-005A, and a question (or 2)

An MEP-004 is almost exactly the same, so if they are not using the two jacks, you'd be OK. (I don't think they are used, I know there are open connectors, used for the precise model, but I don't know off the top of my head which ones. If necessary I could check mine, but it's covered right...

New (to me) MEP-005A, and a question (or 2)

You really need that switch. It has contacts to prevent over-speed, and as well it also controls the flashing of the generator as the engine gets up to speed. Without it there will be no flash, and no safety shutoff should the system malfunction. (as well, there are contacts that would prevent...

Offer on broken MEP-003a need advice...

:ditto:Agreed, keep looking, as the problem could well be that the head is bad. You'd need to do some extensive testing to determine that the head is good, and that the problem is in the associated wiring. If they are willing to sell for much less, it might be worth it as a learning experience...

    MEP-004 questions

Around here, I'd go to the local recycling center (town) and there are usually a few old electric ranges sitting in the scrap metal pile. Grab the oven elements (usually these are 5 KW) and when you have three of them, you have the load resistors. At that stage all you have to do is figure a...

    MEP-004 questions

I'd recommend you use a commercial diesel anti-gel agent. PS is one brand, Stanadyne makes another. Most car parts stores carry the stuff, especially in the winter. Note: don't use 911 unless necessary, it is a bit harsh on the engine. I know that places such as Grainger will carry them. As...

Need some help getting my MEP006A Genset to run 480 Volts

Simple things first, battle short is off, right? Next monitor voltage at the starter solenoid, and see if it gets 24V when you hit start. BTW, does the lamp test show all lamps working OK?

    spacers on MEP 002a & 003a

Grainger carries them, at least as I understand what you are looking for. Only downside is that Grainger doesn't sell to anyone who doesn't have an account with them.

    MEP-004A parts, and problems

Is the voltage and frequency close to correct when the start switch is put into the start position?

    MEP-004A parts, and problems

Remember fuel feed is gravity from the day tank to the injection pump. So if the day tank is filling/filled then the fuel pumps and all that pre-day tank stuff should be OK. The cover on the injection pump can be removed, be careful to keep everything spotlessly clean if you decide to remove...
