I picked up 2 002a's in a private sale. Both units run, but one has starter issues. I found the flywheel ring gear and starter drive trashed. Repaired starter and replaced flywheel/ring gear combination. Now when I start the unit, the starter bangs in and out constantly until I let up on S1...
Didn't get a chance to respond sooner, but got the new diodes installed and the genny is producing power. Not full output though (18 amps max before it starts to smoke and bog down. Much blowby in the crankcase. Suspect stuck or broken/worn rings. Will do a compression check at some point. Since...
Jim,
Great! Have a question though. Isn't a diode with a positive anode and a diode with a negative cathode the same thing? Found diodes for my new to me 002A, with higher ratings than standard on the big auction site, but think I got tripped up and have "six of one and half dozen of the...
Just acquired 2 MEP 002A's private sale. One is seized (Injector was left out-parts machine). The other has a couple of bad rotating diodes. Diodes are 1N1204A and 1N1204R as far as i can tell through research here and elsewhere. Been searching and have run into out of stock, long lead time...
The class I was in at Belvoir had a student blow the back of a turbine generator out through a window at the generator building with an extreme (blew the exhaust duct work apart), booming start. Took couple of hours for the DI to get his feet back on the ground. Never saw the student again...
Installed a new acvr today (thanks triple Jim), and started the 003 must be 20 times this afternoon (just to see if it would hold up). Started great every time with the type 1 starter. The type 2 starter worked for upwards of 20 times, before it started giving trouble. Did it take that long for...
Guyfang,
Yup, been through all that and corrected wiring on all four MEP's. Kind of interested in Jamaweib's spacer comments. Do you know if this was a general practice (adding spacers)? Had to do it on a '77 350 chevy motor starter to stop grinding.
Thanks,
David
That is about my timeframe with the 003. Have type 1 on it and it seems happy. Are you saying the starter is coming too far out (back), or staying more toward the flywheel?
My 003 sounds like the bendix is not fully engaging the teeth in the flywheel. Wonder if there is a bendix kit for the...
Has anyone had problems with the type 2 starters holding up? I have purchased several type 2 starters from the auction site. I have one with 20 to 30 starts on it and this week during the monthly exercise, it chattered and ground during the starting process. It did finally start that time, but...
