SUCCESS!! I fired up the 6.5 today! So I know that my trip was not all in vain!
I think I figured out why it was pulled. Someone had crossthreaded the #1 injector line, so it was missing on that cylinder. I just happened to have a 6.5 injector sitting around in my garage, so I swapped it...
Here's the link to modding the cans:

Here's a couple of pics of the goods. The second from left is a GEP 6.5. The rest are 6.2s:
I had to do a little bit of modifying to my HMMWV engine cans to be able to start the engines in the shipping container. First, I lifted up the back of the engine by prying with a long 2x6, then I shoved a pile of blocks under the oil pan to support the engine while I removed the rear bracket...
I modded one of the can's rear crossmembers to accept a starter. I used 2 peices of angle iron welded on either side of the original "upright". Then I gouged out a hole with the plasma torch.
I couldn't find any pictures or video example of anyone having done this, so I'll post some pics...
I just bought a used 12v 6.5 gear reduction starter locally for $30. I'm going to bring the welder home from work on monday to make the mods on the engine cases and then I'm going to test them out.
Just got back from the recovery. I left Wednsday night at 1700 and got back today (Friday) at 1400. It ended up being about 1300 miles round trip. I used up 90 gallons of veggie oil and about 15 gallons of diesel/biodiesel in my F350.
Jerod at GL in Ft Carson was great to deal with.
I...
Well, the GL guy at FT Carson only operates Tues-Thurs, so I wont be able to do it this Friday. I set up the apointment for Thursday morning at 0800. I'm going to have to take off from Salt Lake City on Wednday evening after work, drive all night, load up in the morning, then crash for a few...
That's a long drive with no A/C! Keep hydrated. What did you end up paying for your 1008, if you dont mind my being nosey? (if you do mind me poking in on your business, you can tell me to piss off.)
Oh-no! Please dont tell me this! I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because the future of my OD collecting is depending on this trip. If I come out ahead, the wifey will give me a long leash, if I lose my shirt, I'm done.
I do know the value of the parts (especially the injector pumps) on...
That's all good news (except for the pallet jack not working thing)! I'm surprised at how my wife has responded to me winning this auction. She seems to be confident in my decision! Something must be wrong.
That's some good news. I sure hope I get some good engines. I figure this could go one of two ways in the eyes of my wife:
#1. I look like the world's biggest genius, because I bought 4 running engines for less than $100 apeice.
or
#2. I look like the world's biggest moron, because I...
I paid for my engines today. I notice that they charged my CO sales tax, even though I'm in UT. Is that how it always goes? Anyway, the engines all come in shipping containers, so I'm going to have to bring my big, junky flatbed trailer for this operation.
Thought I'd show some of the GL...
Just won 4 HMMWV engines at Ft. Carson
I won a lot of 4 6.2's from Ft. Carson. I'm pretty excited, cause my M10Faux9 (my civvy 86 diesel Blazer) needs a new engine. I sure hope I didn't buy 4 thousand lbs of scrap!
Any words of wisdom for me before I make the trip to recover them? Also, what...
