Engine life
Wow! I read so much information in this post that my brain must have "information overload".
I run 15-40 oil in the summer and 5-40 in the winter. Keep the road speed at
about 50 mph and try not to abuse anything.
Perhaps the problem in southeast asia was the heat/humidity...
Let the purists do it their way, that's fine. You did it your way, and it looks great!
Experience with the M2/M3 Halftracks proved how quiet and smooth rubber tracks
are on the road. Metal tracks better for cross-country.
Great project! I always thought the three magic words were "six...
Disclosure
Disclosure "should be" an hosest answer to their questions.
They ask for "make, model and style" and I answered their questions.
If they are concerned about gross vehicle weight, then they should ask for it.
Dropping people after they have an accident is what the state insurance...
When I did my M52A2 I used an old M35 Cargo Box. Not the best choice dimension
wise, but it was close by and the price was right.
I left the wheel well "wide open" for both rear axles, but I really like what you did
with giving each axle point it's own wheel well. Great visual affect:D
I took the above advice and did the online quote from GEICO. I played stupid, and
yeah I know that was not much of a leap!
I plugged in my Chevy Tahoe, the wife's Mercury Van and my 5-ton as a "1968 Jeep
Pickup Truck". It does have a cargo box and tailgate exactly like a normal pickup...
Condon Kelly
auaCondon Kelly Insurance advertises they insure ex-military and fire trucks. My
online quote seemed reasonable and I txed them.
When I said "Five Ton" I could hear the agent gasp! She said they no longer
insure "Large Trucks". When I asked why they wou9ld not insure me...
Insurance
I will contact NATIONWIDE on Monday!
I tired a few more "clasic car" insurance companies today, and all had way too many restrictions-including demanding that I garage the vehicle when not in use! Building a garage big enough for my truck would cost $40K:-P
State Farm
I currently have the 5-Ton insured thru State Farm. They insist it must be considered a Commercial Vehicle and basic coverage(PL & PD) is $387/six months.
I ran a "price quote" on the CHUBB Insurance website today, and it figured out to be
$248/year of basic coverage with no...
Since I switched from Deuces to 5 Tons I have found a problem. The insurance
agencies insist on treating my truck as a "Commercial Vehicle", even though I keep
insisting it never was a commercial vehicle and is now for private use! They don't care. It have it insured, but much more...
Red Can
I see a red in color fuel can.
Are you pouring gasoline into that tank???
I removed the 5th wheel from my tractor(M52A2) and replaced the open space
with a modified M35 Cargo Box. Yeah, it still rides a bit stiff(holy cow is it stiff):driver:
You will enjoy the truck, have fun!
Highway speeds
My M52A2 tops out at 50 mph, with my foot to the floor! You guys seem like speed demons!
The old girl might do a little faster when I switch from the 1100x20 NDCC tires to
the G177 tires I purchased...2cents
Thanks
Thanks to everyone for your help. I as well as others seem to have great trouble
downloading the TMs, as my PC refuses to cooperate.
My truck has no manual fuel tank transfer valve, but does have the "fuel transer
switch". So the explanation of moving fuel from the right tank to...
This is a strange one. My M52A2 works fine on the Left Fuel Tank, but when I
turn the switch to run off of the Right Tank it does something strange:
The Fuel Gauge changes over to read the fuel level in the Right Tank, but the engine
continues to draw fuel from the Left Tank?? aua
I bought a...
Pre-positioned equipment
I believe a lot of Pre-Positioned equipment from Norway has been liquidated by the DOD recently. Something tells me only a fraction of it is making it's way back to our shores.....aua
Air?
My girlfriend's son got into my M52A2 and asked if it had Air Conditioning?
I said "Sure!" , then I reached back and opened the rear sliding window....
1100x20 Tires
Looks great!
When you are finished, I am interested in some 1100x20 tires in good condition for
my M52A2.
If you are some to get rid of, let me know and we can work something out....:driver:
