Yes!
I shorted mine 24 inches before I mounted it on my M52A2, but I left about a twenty
inch gap between the cargo box and the tool box to step up onto and access the
air lines. Plus the gap allowed me to climb up into the cargo much with less effort...
No equal treatment`
It does appear we all get different treatment when dealing with insurance agents.
Even agent from the same company give wildly different answers when we ask to insure an old military vehicle. One Allstate agent gives someone insurance and my
agent flat out denied...
Got it yet?
My regular Allstate agent would not insure me either, and PROGRESSIVE turned me down "flat"!
I ended up with STATE Farm, about $250/six months......aua
1100x20s
I might be interested in the 1100x20 tires as spares for my truck?
I use mine for towing my race truck and don't want to raise the pintle height
any further by changing over to taller tires...:driver:
M52 club
Sounds great. Welcome to the unoffical M52 club.
I modified mine by removing the 5th wheel and replacing the space with a
shortened M35 cargo box, to meet my requirements...
6 Ton
Let me say three things about moving up from the duece to the 5-Ton:
1. Power Steering
2. POWER STEERING
3. DID YOU HEAR ME? THEY HAVE POWER STEERING
The 5-Ton can be driven so much more enjoyably, especially in tight spaces;
thanks to the power steering. The difference...
Armor?
IMHO: If you are going into a situation that requires armor plate, purchase a dedicated armored vehicle. Buy a M3 Halftrack, M59, M113, V-100 or whatever
floats your boat. You are limited only by how deep your wallet is packed...
Those of your out there that are thinking of puting...
White smoke?
I put fuel additive in every "tank" when I fill up also.
But "White Smoke" is strange. White to me always meant there was water
somehow getting into the combustion chamber.
This can be from: (1) Water in the fuel (2) Water getting into the cylinder via
a bad head gasket.
It...
Nice!
Looks a lot like my M52A2 before I removed the 5th wheel and attached a shortened
cargo box.
I like the step in the middle of the bumper.
I added one by welding up some one inch square tubing, just at the point the
bumper begins to angle back.

New times!
I never truly considered doing this before, but these are indeed new times we live
in. At $4.20/gallon where I live reclaiming alternative fuel is beginning to look like
a viable process.
I have 110 gallons of diesel stored, just in case the day comes I cannot buy it at the local...
3 out of 4
I carry the standard lug wrench, the geared lug wrench and a 3/4 inch impact.
I DO NOT carry the hammer powered variety in an attempt to stay out of the
Emergency Room. Prior trips proved to be less than happy experiences.
Note: I find myself using the manual or even geared...
Japan?
Okay, I have to ask: What is the deal with the data plate refering to "JAPAN ORDNANCE" something or other?
Was it rebuilt at a deport while serving with US Forces in Japan at some time??
Light Duty
It sounds like a good idea for you guys out there with "light duty trucks".
I personally prefer to keep a 3/4 inch drive air impact wrench on board and
utilize the truck's air brake system to provide power.
Remember: BIG TOOLS FOR BIG JOBS![thumbzup]
I see several companies are advertising sealant for "Tubed Tires". SLIME, etc...
Has anyone tried any of this stuff in 1100x20 or larger tubed tires and any
feedback on how well it works against road hazard punctures?
It would be worth the money to me to have some "insurance" against...
M52a2
We took the 5th wheel off of the M52A2 I bought, then bobbed the cargo box from a M35 Duece to mount in it's place to convert it to a cargo truck.....:driver:
Thanks for the post!
Your post reminded me that I have to add a disconnect switch to my trucks. I have
not had a serious problem yet with anyone fiddling with them, but a bit of insurance is always a good idea....[thumbzup]
Learning cure
Driving a MV is a "Learning Curve" that is probably not fulling achieved until the day we die! Always some new situation to learn how to deal with....:driver:
Wierd people?
Hard to tell who is weird these days. They see my trucks and say something like:
"What are you going to do with that?"
And I normally respond: "Drive it!"
Then they see my mud racer truck with 700+ hp 514 cubic inch Ford Big Block and
53 inch tall tractor tires; and they don't...
