thunk thunk knock knock in left rear????

When I run those part numbers on Autozones website I don't see where it shows it being Rear, RF, or LF. Did I miss that somewhere or is that from your experience with these? Also the shaft that fit mine for the rear is 16060N. Was that just a typo or a glitch on their site or?

thunk thunk knock knock in left rear????

My HMMWV: 1989 M998A0 Vendor: Autozone Rear: 16060N (this is the only one I got) Fronts: 16058N and 16059N I am sorry I am not sure which side is which as it shows 3 shafts in their system/website but not location and the counter person couldn't tell either. I was told if it's wrong just...

thunk thunk knock knock in left rear????

Just got the shaft installed I also ordered from Autozone. Same story, has a reluctor wheel (I left it on for now as the shaft has a lifetime warranty-uhhh sure sounds good!), an just a fuzz longer so I popped the control arm up to get that little extra room. Everything seemed to fit an line up...

    M998 Noise issue

Does it sound kind of like a hiss? If it does then its probably the Cadillac Valve. A lot of people will want to say "refer to the TM" for fluid info an frequency and you can definitely insue a which fluid brand is better debate much like the "Ford, Chevy, Dodge" debate but the most important...

thunk thunk knock knock in left rear????

I had just ordered a rear shaft from a different vendor for $175 when I first saw this post. I just installed that one to notice my left side has a bad boot not to mention the original axle and a dry rotted looking boot on the other end-ok so I will get a new shaft for this side to I guess! So I...

    Making your own hard top!?

I almost built one out of 1/8 aluminum with aluminium "trusses" under it for support as I have access to a shop to fab everything. I had done sketches for a two piece roof design and a one piece rear with a camper window in the center. My thought was I could say build 5 of them or whatever, an...

    m998 hmmwv hissing noise

I bought a 2" rubber plumbing coupler from the hardware store then cut it length ways with a utility knife so I could slide it over the valve with out having to take anything apart. I cut a couple of notches out for the hoses to slide into and I used hose clamps to hold it all in place. It took...

front half shaft replacement before or after alignment?

Feltz Tire here in WI usually has a large selection of Humvee tires. I got mine there last spring for $100 each an they were like new. Price of shipping would suck though.

front half shaft replacement before or after alignment?

Had me fooled then! Being torqued to 90 lb-ft at the factory, then working as a contortionist around the gas tank an some of those difficult spots, then multiply that by 28 years of corrosion, it comes out to about 1 million foot pounds. :)

front half shaft replacement before or after alignment?

    I removed them myself.

front half shaft replacement before or after alignment?

My camber was like that too. The shims aren't the worst part, the plates are what suck as they are not slotted like the shims so the bolts have to come all the way out. It doesn't take much rust plus the bolts are torqued to about 1 million foot pounds so you gotta eat your Wheaties! I gave the...

front half shaft replacement before or after alignment?

You don't have to mess with anything that would effect the alignment. Shafts are not to bad to do. How much did they quote you for an alignment?

    fan not kicking on

You can use something called a combustion leak detector kit. Google search Lisle 75500, you can get them for around $40. It comes in a kit that you place blue fluid into a container with a tapered nozzle you hold in the radiator cap neck, any combustion gasses getting into the coolant will...

    HMMWV Half Shafts

I have only replaced boots-even on cars its not worth rebuilding as a lot of CV shafts for cars/trucks are only $60-$100 each. Even now days with a boot kit a person might have $30-$40 just into boots-plus your time an when you can get a CV shaft ready to bolt in for $60-$100 on a vehicle-ya I...

    HMMWV Half Shafts

I bought a 10k shaft for mine online for like $110 I think it was shipped to my door. I searched several online vendors, part numbers, etc., ordered it and it fit! For that kinda money an no messing around with boots an joints plus the time it saves its well worth it. I've replaced boots on a...

1988 Humvee Project: Installed my "Bed Divider" today.

I made a divider out of some scrap 3/4" plywood. Cut the bed pattern out with a band saw an made little L brackets an screwed them into place, 2 coats of black paint, an window an door caulk around the edges. Seals up great an eliminated the "back draft" effect and you can't hardly tell its not...
