Yes, I dealt with John when I recovered my M1009 and the M101A2. He's a great guy to work, and has been very helpful. The ol' M1009 pulled it great. She grunted a little getting off the 80/22 bypass up that big hill getting back on 280 when we were headed home, but it handled those hills on 96...
I went and got my M101A2 from Warner Robins today, and the trip was seamless. The trailer is great. It doesn't even look like its ever been used. The paint on the floor even looks great. The brakes work great, all the lights work great (even the blackout lights) and it has brand new looking...
Me too! I love driving "junk" engines for hundreds of thousands of miles, getting great fuel mileage, and being able to replace the whole engine for about the price of a new fuel pump in a new truck (I paid $400 for a 38,000 mile military takeout 6.2 for my dually and I paid $405 for a new fuel...
The camshaft is shot, and I think the head gasket is too. I am weighing my options right now. When it warms up, I'm either going to try to fix the Tornado, or transplant the Cummins. In the meantime I've being collecting parts.

If you are going with 33's, no lift will actually be needed, but if you do want to go with a 2" lift, a 2" suspension lift with be the best route. You could do a 2" body lift, but they look like crap, IMO, because the bumpers are 2" lower than the body. A 2" lift is pretty economical with 2"...
Agreed!
Older diesels like our's with rotary style IP's need more lubrication than modern diesel provides. It's a good idea to add something with every fill up, and 2 cycle oil is cheaper and more easily attainable than sulfur additives.
DXTAC, I would find with somebody that has swapped in a 4BT and ride in/drive it before you get serious about. Those 4BT's are loud, vibrating little engines. They don't make great power in stock form, and need the pump turned up and injectors to make really good power. Some people love them...
Ditto.
On the 6.2, don't expect much power beyond 1/2 throttle -lol. They are about a fast at 1/4 throttle as thety are at WOT - even if they are running great. It shouldn't be shaking though.
To answer the OP's question - Yes it would. Lowering the compression helps with the cracking issues because it reduces the amount of cylinder pressure and stress on the block - even if is making more HP. Everybody gets hung up on the fact that making more power = more stress, but that's not true...
I did a search, but couldn't find exactly what I needed. I am going to recover the M101A2 that I won on GL recently, and I was wondering if the plug for the lights is compatible with a M1009. I'm assuming they are, but I wanted to know for sure. I am planning on taking some extra bulbs and some...
I helped a friend put a 4BT in a CJ-7 a few years back, and though we both it was an awesome idea at the time, he hates it now that its in the Jeep. The 4BT vibrates terribly and does not run smooth like a 6BT or other V8 diesels. He did extensive research trying to find the "problem". He...
Painting one of these flat black makes it look like an old ragged out, redneck, regular Blazer or truck to 95% of the people out there. My buddy has a white M1008, and he's had it for years. There's are tons of people that flip over mine, and they've seen his tons of times. They all say when I...
