Drove my deuce over to a local guy who is selling his 5 ton for a ridiculous price in my opinion. But I did get to drive her! Wow that power steering is so nice:drool:! Wish I had the $$ to buy it. When I drove mine back I got a new rattle to figure out, I think she got jealous..
Only thing I can add (from experience) is.. see that inner ring bolt in pic 4 above from Frank. Keep that at the top! If it's a little forward or back when you turn it will knock the inner ring loose and you'll have to do it all over again. Good Luck!
Finally got around to changing my compressor belt.. see pic.. also changed the alt belts which were loose.. Now I got awesome air pressure and my batteries are getting charged correctly.
Tennmogger, nope it's just for looks. The headlights are like candlelight anyway so I'm not losing much.. lol I got LED driving lights under the bumber that are basically my main lights for "seeing"
Dang, I just saw a convoy of those the other day.. I was thinking to myself.. I wonder when they will start selling those off.. Now I know.
Best of luck with here and keep us updated with pics.. by the way what's it called? Model, etc? Sorry a noob on the newer stuff.
So as if the truck didn't look badass enough I decided on a small mod around the headlights. I made it out of 1/4" steel, nothing new just some stuff I had lying around. I mocked it up first with some cardboard so I could see if I liked the angle. Then cut it out and welded it on. What do ya...
You got to use sharp ones Gimpy! lol, It's a little harder yes but it works, just got to use the right type as there are a lot of different combinations/styles of them
Step bits work for me too! I got a few from Harbor Freight and they last pretty well, only broke one or two, but for the price at HF who cares.
I pretty much only use them on metal when I need to drill out something.
Ditto what Gimpy said, yes a good deal but don't try and tow it yourself, spend the $200. The truck has single stage brakes which means if you have a leak or failure anywhere then you have NO BRAKES.. that's not cool when you have over 5 tons of steel rolling. You will always have something to...
I was wondering about your hourly rate as well. I thought $50/hr handyman in NY was good for me but...
Back to the original post, I would blast as best as possible then Por 15 and then paint... if it comes back again.. repeat.
I was going to say wow that looks as in as bad a shape as mine was! Lol. I think you'll be OK if you painted it so long as you got down to bare metal.
On another note I think I found the piece that's the culprit for most Airpack problems. See pics. Not sure what this piece is called but I...
Update from my original post above from 2012. Over 4 years ago I posted that and I still am using the same batteries!!! They are probably around 8 years old now or older since they looked old when I bought the truck 6 years ago. The Battery Minders do really work with the DeSulfator option on...
