I just finished rebuilding a 6.5l and that sounds like a timing issue to me, I had to play around a bit to get it right, it is absolutely amazing to me how much differance a TINY adj. of the timing can make on these!

Nate, if your truck has been converted to 12v, make sure the alt. that you do have has a tach output on it. Im not sure if both of mine do, just the DS one for sure.
