Have you checked valve clearance? Common problem on these old engines is the valve seat wear due to unleaded fuel. Another good upgrade is the Pertronix pointless ignitor plate............does away with points and the constant adjustment from wear. It wouldn't hurt to do a compression test to...
As has been mentioned try swapping wheels/tires or get them balanced ( spun not static). Also make sure alignment ( actually toe in) is correct. You want very slight toe in about 1/8"
Def worth the money! No need to ever re adjust points, and it always runs smooth. One less maintenance item, only caveat is make sure ignition is always OFF when its not running.
I have the D turbo on mine so for the most parts it's quiet. BUT, when you're in the throttle deep and let off to shift you hear that " SSSSSSssssshhhhhh" as it spools down it's just so cool!
Ok, some minor updates. I made up a set of tailgate chains,unwound the winch cable, cleaned, lubed, and rewound the proper direction and installed the 4' leader chain and serviced the winch boxes. Acquired a set of 5 spare wheels and 1 brake drum, got a battery box and outside mirrors. Also...
I believe the winch is the same, short bumpers are still available. I have not seen the center bumper/ winch mount. You may be better off finding a parts truck but they're hard to find ( winch trucks)
