I used to drive a 1028 at the museum I worked at frequently, great truck. I also own a m1009 and use it as a daily driver, plow truck, expo rig, etc. I don't think all the extra work would be worth it personally. You might feel it worth the work and I don't fault you if you have your reasons...
that's a very nice looking tire carrier. I would love to do something like that for my m1009, I have a m1008 bumper of the back of my rig so if I can build it into that I'm sold.
I ended up putting a bumper (custom) and winch up front and wanted to give it a little more spring. I used the HD (4 leaf) springs from SD Springs and was VERY happy with the results. They are rated for 1,900lbs and the truck rides so much better its hard to believe, if I didn't have the extra...
that's a great modification to these trucks for those that live in cold areas. Something else to look at is a set of battery heating pads or wraps. I like the pads a bit better but each work. You lift up your batteries and place elements below each of them, run the wiring and done. Even at...
trailer is coming right along! I cant say enough about how much I enjoy these old military trailers, they are so robust and handy. We use ours for almost everything and they haul way more than rated. I really like the awning idea
WELCOME! Glad to see you got yourself a nice trailer, they are so well built. I have had a couple myself and loved everyone of them. I sold my 101a1 and blessed a friend with my a2 after tuning her up. He loves it just as much as I did and likely gets more use out of it. were now running an...
I know you guys are looking to keep things similar sized and what not. I took my 416 apart sand blasted the old girl and did a bunch of metal work to make it solid again. Ended up throwing a lid on it and figured matching tire and rims to go with the tow vehicle might be real nice on long...
cool modification, very practical for long drives. I just re-geared and now am thinking a gear vendor overdrive and a cruise control would be exceptional. But I do just love the truck the way it is, so who knows.
before you get to deep in the woods on a lift and what not and larger tires, something to consider is new leaf springs. I got a new set of leaf springs from sd truck springs online and wow, what a difference in height and ride quality. After 31 years the old leafs had grown tired to say the...
I tried to source a few locally without much luck. Found a guy who might not be in business anymore running a site called cucv electric. Bought a couple things from him to include a couple spares. While your doing some work on your beast might be worthwhile to install a manual glow plug...
I think you di ok at 500. I paid about 1k for one in like new condition with maybe 40 hours on it. Its an awesome little set, puts out enough power for us in a pinch. I would happily pay the same price again for another unit in the same condition if I needed another one.
Ok went ahead and ordered the four leaf spring packs. There rated at 1900lbs each. They said the stock two leaf springs are 1200lbs and the three leaf is rated at 1400lbs. So I figured the extra 400 lbs of support would be only enough for a plow. Seeing as I have the heavy bumper and monster...
All good info, lots of stuff here I'm glad to know ahead of time. Our new gears go in next week, plow after that. Still on the fence about the add a leaf but may just go to it. Can't hurt with all the excess weight I have.
