New guy..as of today..with questions about the M37 and engine swaps

No, I kept the 5.83s, however the NV4500 transmission has 5th speed overdrive and the tires are 38" tall. Cruise easily at 55 to 60, going faster is not comfortable in this vehicle. MPGs were never a concern, so I have no idea of my mileage.

New guy..as of today..with questions about the M37 and engine swaps

The NP200 transfer case is not as weak as you may think, provided the lubricant level is maintained. MyPowerwagon and m37 used the stock transfer case. Power Wagon had a 440 engine, M37 had a 360 Dodge engine. Frank

    Engine mystery?

How are you checking TDC for number 1? You can't use the spark plug hole as it is not over the piston. Number six has a plug in the head that is over the piston that is used to find TDC. As stated above number 6 and number 1 are in the same plane as determined by the crankshaft. Frank

M37 / Civilian Power Wagon axles different?

The track width is narrower on the M37 (62" vs 64.5) so the axle lengths are different than the PW.

Crawl under the truck, the lever attaches to shift rail on the pto and pivots on a bracket on the rear of the pto. Frank

M43 transfer case temp fix help.

You can remove the bearing retainer which holds the seal without disturbing anything else.
