    Painted my M1009...

I still have some more antenna mounts, shackles, the gas can mount, the pintel, and some other stuff I need to paint green but it was getting dark. In the next week or two I am going to get pull the wheels off and while its on jack stands I am going to power wash the undercarriage and paint the...

    Painted my M1009...

Once I was finished sanding I power washed the entire vehicle and then washed it with a detergent to try and degrease any oil spots. I power washed it again and let it air dry over night. The next morning I used painters tape and paper to tape everything up. I hate doing this, it takes a long...

    Painted my M1009...

Well I had some vacation time around new years so I used it to work on my M1009 some more. I completely removed the front and rear bumpers, brush guard, antenna mounts, the grill, wipers, and the gas tank guard plate. The bumpers were a pain in the ass! Rusted carriage bolts suck! Took me...

Mirrors removed from windshields in M1009s...

Why is it just about every M1009 that comes out of GL have its rear view mirror removed. Does the glue just let go on the mount or do people pull them off?

CUCV tool kit...what do you carry?

I am thinking about ordering a set of "throw away" (inexpensive so if they get stolen no big loss) tools to put in my CUCV to fix it if it breaks down. I was thinking of putting a box together with the following: Socket Set - SAE 1/4-3/4 Socket Set - Metric 4 mm-17 mm Wrenches - SAE 5/16-3/4...

What caused my paint gun to do this?

I never thought to check the vent hole on the paint cup. I am betting that is what was wrong. I ordered some disposable paint cups last night since these things are a pain to clean.

What caused my paint gun to do this?

I was painting my M1009 this weekend. On Saturday I put down the base coat of Gillespie green and my Harbor Freight HVLP gun was working just fine. When I was finished I took it apart and cleaned it up. Today I went out and painted the camo on. About 1/3 of the way through putting down...

What headlight bezel do I order...

I need a new passenger side headlight bezel since mine is cracked. LMC list a set for dual headlight and single headlight but the pictures look the same. Which one do I order?

I thought spin on filters was a civi mod...

Hmm...I do not think they would install the civi air duct brackets back in for that would they?

I thought spin on filters was a civi mod...

Well the rabbit hole goes deeper....I looked up some of the NIIN numbers listed on that conversion data plate: Seems some dealer ship in Oklahoma provided these things. A total of 25. Why would they go through a dealer instead of straight from GM? Maybe this is some kind of hybrid civi version.

I thought spin on filters was a civi mod...

Could this have some thing to do with it. There is another with the spin on filter mod with this data plate called a "NON TACT VEH CONVERSION" Some kind of sub model of the M1009?

I thought spin on filters was a civi mod...

Wow this is a weird one. Look at the mud flaps. Also is another pic of the engine bay.

I thought spin on filters was a civi mod...

I thought the Spin on filters were a mod people made to M1009s after the government was done with them. This is the first one I have seen to have it before uncle sam was done with it.

M1009 bumpers pita to remove...6 hours...

Yea I think I will just go buy some new carriage bolts from Lowes. I figure that it would not have been a pita if they were not rusted because once I got them loose I could unbolt them by hand. I am glad I got them off. It allows me to get rid of the surface rust that has built up there.

M1009 bumpers pita to remove...6 hours...

Well I was hoping to have my bumpers, radio brackets, and reflectors removed so I could sand down the body today...but that did not happen... The bumpers were a complete PITA to remove. The bolts are so rusty that once you get them moving the carriage bolt comes out and you can not keep it...

Do you remove the brush guard before painting?

I am prepping my M1009 for painting and have a few questions. For those who have painted their M1009s did you remove the brush guard and paint it separately? It just seems like it would be hard to paint the back part of it. Also did you put paper in between the radiator and the grill to block...

So are CUCV's metric or not?

I prefer the metric system also, it made working on my motorcycle a snap. Easy to do conversions to.

So are CUCV's metric or not?

I meant to bring this issue up when I first got my truck but I thought these things were supposed to have all metric bolts installed. Mine seems to have a mixture of both US fractional and Metric. The bolts look factory to me. Did the factory only replace some of the bolts they thought...
