So....what do you guys exactly do with these trucks???

Wow. 6 pages of replies. Interesting reading to include two links. Sorry...I am an experienced forum user and I should have used the search. I defer to your punishment. :) Ok....looks like I helped you out today to justify your purchase. Do I get a slap on the back? A "way to go Hasbro? A...

So....what do you guys exactly do with these trucks???

I've been in the military for 20 some years. I've driven my share of 2.5 and 5 ton trucks across the country and I cannot imagine why anyone would want or need one of these. The end usage does not seem to get discussed much. I did a couple of roof projects last year and having a dump truck...

    Scratchbuilt 1/8 scale M915A1

Hmmmmmm....that is an idea. I've been using .025" aluminum shim stock for a spacer when I was experimenting soldering these individually. Actually, I could probably do something like this, but toss the whole works in an oven and let it bake. I'll have to contemplate this....while I make another...

    Scratchbuilt 1/8 scale M915A1

That is a little different idea than what I tried. I tinned the tubes (actually .016" x 1/4" flat brass), slipped a few fins on, fluxed everything and then used a small butane torch to heat it up. It didn't work as good as I thought. I like your idea, but my problem is to keep 100 or so flimsy...

    Scratchbuilt 1/8 scale M915A1

A few pictures of the grille that I built last winter. Now that I've figured out how to beat copper over a wood buck without a bunch of creases and warpage, I think the roof section will be pretty easy now. Overall shot Closeup bottom right corner (bottom driver's side actually) Top corner...

    Scratchbuilt 1/8 scale M915A1

LOL...I would LOVE to make the engine, transmission, and transfer case actually work, but my limited machining knowledge would never get that done....or it would take me 100 years to figure it out. I have both a soldering iron and a resistance soldering setup plus a number of small butane...

    Scratchbuilt 1/8 scale M915A1

It's going to be a static display model. I am striving to put as many of the details in this as I can. I'm working off of around 1400 pictures of every imaginable angle on this truck. I probably have around 300 or 400 measurements, but I plan on getting more measurements before I deploy to...

    Scratchbuilt 1/8 scale M915A1

I should be back on this build in a week or so. I had a bunch of military training to go to and then I had two roofs to build. I got most of the projects done and looking forward to getting back to this. Thanks for all the great words! Mike

    Scratchbuilt 1/8 scale M915A1

Thanks. A little backstory to this. I work for the Guards as a computer tech now. A few years ago, the shop got a contract to rebuild about 40 of these. Tore them right down to the frame. I had hundreds and hundreds of pictures of a tore down M915A1. I say "had" because I somehow deleted them...

    Scratchbuilt 1/8 scale M915A1

Hey all, Been a lurker here for awhile. I stop in once every couple of weeks. I'm building a 1/8 scale M915A1 and thought I'd post some pics of what I have done so far. This is just going to be a few random shots without a lot of indepth explaining. I'm also posting more pics on my website at...
