What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Finally got around to pulling the t-case apart. Pretty good signs of heat on most of the parts, bearing fallen apart, many ground into dust lol. Without further adduce, failed planetary from a NP208. Lack of lubrication.

Loan tools??? Never again. Had too many never get returned or broken then chaise trying to get them back or replaced. Loan a vehicles? Only to my mother and one biker friend of mine. With mom,, well that's a given. With my biker friend, he always drops off his Soft Tail Custom for me to ride for...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I talked to the guy this morning and he has a couple that need to go so gonna pick out the best. He used to have the square body disease by the sounds of it lol. He sold off most everything because he's moving and said he'd make a heck of a deal on anything else I might need, if he has it. So...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

It's not! I really have to force it to spin the drive shaft. It's seizing and most likely tearing the case up and I can tell there's a bit of load on the engine backing it out of the barn. Didn't even bother to put fluid back in it seems it's coming out. I did find one locally on CL for $40, I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Well a bit of a sad update to last night's post. Tore into my M1008 today hoping for a brake issue. Brakes looked great, pass side axle shaft is sloppy which I knew but not creating any issues. So I moved back in the driveline. The transfer case is shot. Had the rear on stands and tranny in...

Had to make a run into Pa today to pick up a dirt bike for my daughter. Filled up with bio-diesel at Mirabito and after an hour of pounding down 81s and my fuel gauge not moving I got a bit nervous. On the way back stopped at the nearest gas station for some more diesel, thinking the sender wire...

Right Bedside Replacement Panel - My Experience

Thanks for the post! I was considering going with a complete bed side to take care of a rust issue on the driver side of my M1008 to save the time of messing with a patch. I didn't really care if I got one that had dents or gouges seems the Marines did a decent job of customizing this one lol...

Figurd I may as well update this. I decided not to pursue this trailer any further this morning when I found it has no paperwork. NY is terrible when trying to register a trailer without proper state issued paperwork, and they're just getting worse every year. I know a bunch of guys that have...

Thanks. I thought I seen something about a higher weight rating with the E1. Which would be good for me if all goes well, I'll use it mostly for hauling my firewood home. Between the truck and a trailer it means less trips back and forth.

I feel a bit better ten knowing the tags don't necessarily mean anything. It doesn't appear to be missing anything and no serious salt cancer. Needs to have probably 8 layers of CARC blasted off and repainted but that doesn't concern me. That auction can get weird, some years really good stuff...

I get 35-37 bass ackwards for some reason lol, I should know better, I looked at a few of them before buying my M1008. If it's a M101a2, is there a reason it would have the frame plate from a M116, unless someone swapped them? I don't remember for sure but I think if buying a trailer from an...

If I remember I'll try to get pictures of the plate on the cargo body tomorrow, I don't remember what it said but the frame plate saying M116 confused me. Any chance this is something someone threw together with spare parts just to make a buck? I'd like to bid on it Saturday, but I don't want to...

I've been causally looking for a trailer for my M1008 and one showed up for an upcoming auction, sorry guys....not giving details lol. I have looked in the TM and what I see there is A2E1, so am I correct in assuming the data plate wasn't updated? This does have surge brakes, but also has a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I do believe you are right! All women are happiest when showered with gifts lol. She seriously needed new tires. The rears are wore out, I don't think it's ever had a tire rotation before I got it. The fronts were pretty choppy from a loose tie rod and wheel bearings on both sides. All new parts...

Rear brake lock up question? M1009

I completely agree. But even with the above stated the weight still shifts putting more force on the front tires during hard braking or panic stop effectively lessoning the load on the rear tires making them prone to locking up before the front. Maybe the load sensing valve makes enough of a...

Rear brake lock up question? M1009

Recovery4X4 brings up a good point, besides what everyone else was saying about having the drums turned. Under heavy braking or loose surfaces, the drums on the rear WILL lock up before the fronts every time. The shoes have a greater surface area on the drum to grab than the pads do on a disk...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

That can be wicked messy work lol. I used to do a lot of headliners at a local upholstery shop, replaced with new headliner material and done some in different canvases for custom looks. On topic, I finally ordered 4 new rings for my mistress tonight, oops, I mean tires for my M1008. They...

Haven't done much lately with my M1008 because I need to go through the wheel bearings up front but last night I had to make an unexpected run for firewood. 8°F and fired up beautifully, no block heater. Meanwhile my smile grows wider when my buddy's F-350 7.3 won't fire without heat lmao.

Last week on the way home from town I got a case of the death dance at 45mph. Got it slowed to 10 and went away, and right back at 15mph. Figured I was only a half mile from home and I would look at it later. Later came and as I rounded the corner looking at the truck I see the tie rod hanging...
