Lately my M1009 has been neglected due to project deadlines, a movie rental, and helping fellow MV owner friends keep their MVs running.
Recently I have had some spare time to repair the no up-shift problem (stuck governor ). While I was at it, I also replaced the vacuum hoses, the modulator...
Rory,
I missed the Burnet airshow, I was tied up at Lynn's.
I am sorry you cant make it to Mabry next weekend. Your company will be missed. We look forward to seeing you at the Temple Airshow.

John, I guess you could say I am an MD of sorts if the abbreviation stands for
Mechanic of Diesels .
I work for militarytrucks.com, in Liberty Hill, and I also volunteer my time at the Texas Military Forces Museum on Camp Mabry as part of the vehicle maintenance crew.
If you have...
Good point about the lift pump possibly leaking. I normally work on more modern Diesel engines that do not have them so i forgot to suggest it as the possible cause of your fuel in oil problem.
In my experience, when troubleshooting a problem it is usually best to check the least expensive...
I was thinking the same thing. Pump shaft seal leaking.
Reman Injectors are available for around $50.oo each. Plus the core charge from most of the automotive parts stores
The alternators are fairly simple to rebuild. I get my parts locally.
If I go with a new unit, the alternator has 95% of the same internal components as one for a 1978 Cadillac Deville with multi port fuel injection.
The difference is the rear case, and the isolated ground terminal is...
Have you disconnected your batteries, and tested the voltage for each one without the engine running. You should have a minimum of 12.5 volts for each battery.
With the engine running as you increase engine RPM does the voltage output for Gen 1 increase?
Do your batteries discharge overnight? (...
I apologize for giving you the incorrect information about the ground wire.
The blower motor is grounded through the motor case to the fire wall. There is no wire. My M1009 has a 14 gauge ground strap that is attached to one of the blower motor mounting screws, then fastened to the firewall...
I am going to suggest that you check the ground wire for the heater blower motor, and be sure the connection is clean, and tight.
How many volts did you have at the red battery terminal at the back of GEN 1 with the engine running?
I had the same problem with a customers M1008. The gen 1 lamp illuminating when the heater blower was turned, due to a missing heater fuse. There is no indication where the Gen 1 lamp is grounded in the schematic (TM 9-2320-289-20 Figure-9 ) so i will surmise that this unknown ground is the...
I have a 1985 M1009 that at one point in time belonged to a fire department, and the US Forestry Service.
Well for starters, no pun intended.
I replaced both batteries. Rebuilt both alternators. Repaired all the blown fuse-able links. repaired the blown zinear diode, burned circuit trace, and...
There are several 12 volt sockets located in the fuse block under the dash for accessories. Note that One is 24 volts. Use a good multimeter to test the output voltage of these sockets prior to installing any accessory taps.
While at the at the junk yard cannibalize a fuse block from a like...
The fuel / water separator canister is located at the front right side of the engine compartment attached to the frame below the alternator. The secondary, and final filters are in the canisters mounted directly to the engine, on the left side behind the Injection pump.
Adjusting the valves (running the rack) is a fairly simple job, accomplished with feeler gauges, and some common hand tools. You will find the procedure in the TM manuals.
Another common problem that can cause your hard start condition is the fuel shut off valve sticking. The valve is located...
A fuel injection pump that is not timed properly can cause these symptoms. What color is the exhaust?
White exhaust smoke indicates fuel timing issues. (Improper IP timing, or fuel starvation, cold fuel)
Black exhaust smoke indicates over fueling. (Improper IP calibration, or air restriction. )
