    New M923A2 owner OKC

    Hello from Western OK.

M105A2 from Fayetteville, NC to OKC

Anyone making the trip from central North Carolina to parts west in the near future? I have an auction M105A2 that needs to eventually make it to OKC. If you are going through KS, MO, or TX, but not OK, let me know. I would be happy to meet you somewhere.

M923 Transmission Fluid Reads High... Then Low.... Then High... Then Low...

I was just reading that on another thread. Not sure how to go about checking it. Remove the spare, take the vent line off, and blow air through it?

M923 Transmission Fluid Reads High... Then Low.... Then High... Then Low...

I was wondering that myself, but in reading the literature it seemed that the dipstick plug and tube actually was the vent. In the Allison tech help pages it says to make sure the dipstick vent isn't plugged. Anyone know if there is a different vent on the transmission body?

Need CDL to drive 5 ton in Texas?

You are exactly correct. I would not in a million years think of trying to argue the point with a trooper on the side of the road either. Even though I SHOULD be legal to drive in TX with my OK license I won't chance it with the 5-ton. That does raise an interesting point about the Deuce...

Need CDL to drive 5 ton in Texas?

Sorta glad I'm not a Texas resident. You guys have Class A, B, C, M in addition to Class A CDL, B CDL, and C CDL. It would seem that, because of reciprocity agreements, drivers with licenses from out of state don't have to abide by the same rules as Texas residents. For example, Oklahoma...

M923 Transmission Fluid Reads High... Then Low.... Then High... Then Low...

I have been doing the "slow" pull consistently. I have tried slow like molasses in January, slow like "Matrix bullet-time", slow like a snake in the snow slow, etc. Am I supposed to doing it slow like... make a pot of coffee while you are pulling it out slow, or finish a quilt slow? To be...

M923 Transmission Fluid Reads High... Then Low.... Then High... Then Low...

I thought I knew how to read the dipstick on my M923 transmission. Engine running. Transmission fluid temperate at ~170-180 degrees. Transmission in neutral. Push dipstick fully down into receptacle and pull out to observe level on the dipstick. I can do that a dozen times and get a...

Need CDL to drive 5 ton in Texas?

You need to look at the Texas Motor Vehicle Statutes. In Oklahoma Title 47 Sections 47-1-107.4 and 47-1-152.1 specify that, regardless of weight, a recreational vehicle shall be deemed a Class D motor vehicle if it is equipped to serve as temporary living quarters for recreational, camping, or...

    Heavy knocking sound. Video included

I was being driven crazy by a heavy knocking sound at the front of mine. Turned out to be a loose tow shackle vibrating back a forth on the mount. A quick squeeze in the vice fixed it.

Cleaning Surplus Wheels/Tires for an M923

I took apart four of them to install new outer rims, bolts, nuts, etc. and the o-rings were all pristine. As in, they look like they had just been installed yesterday. No water had permeated into the tire at all. They all hold air just fine. The ones I installed on the truck haven't lost any...

Cleaning Surplus Wheels/Tires for an M923

I got mine from Home Depot and diluted with tap water. Klean-Strip Phosphoric Prep and Etch. It is listed at 35-45% phosphoric acid, so I used a one to one dilution. In the future, I will probably use it straight.

    M925A2 Delco Style Alternator

Sweet! Thank you for the update. Mine is still putting out a constant 27.7V. The back of your alternator looks different than mine. Maybe I got a different one?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I have only tried to remove them with the entire hood support beam and bracket removed from the truck (no hood, no truck attached). So, there was literally no weight on them and I couldn't get the bolt to budge on any of the five I have. I can get the nut off, but no amount of soaking in...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

You were able to get the old one out? Please, share how you did it! I have tried disassembling the trunnion bolt on five different assemblies and can't get a single one to budge.

You can also make your own Naval Jelly by adding phosphoric acid to xanthan gum (a thickener commonly used in baking/cooking).

Cleaning Surplus Wheels/Tires for an M923

True. Naval Jelly does work well for removing rust and preventing rust. There are a couple reasons why I did not use it. First, it is very slow acting compared to the liquid solution. This is because the phosphoric acid is not "mobile" in the suspension. I would have taken weeks to do...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Is it just me or does that look like an old hole? The hole appears to be rusted over. Makes me wonder how long the imperfection had been there waiting to blow out.
