    inspiration for the overlanders

I just browsed through the Abenteuer & Allrad gallery. This Steyr 12M18 is sweet. I've always liked the Steyr. Before we decided on our M1078, we test drove a Steyr 12M18 from Origon. The Steyr is very nice and in many ways more "refined" than a LMTV, but they are expensive (a rough surplus...

    Coolant Took A Vacation

It wouldn't surprise me if it was contamination. Last weekend we removed the suspension squat actuator hydro system on ours, and when we drained the fluid from the hoses, it looked really milky. After a while, the rate orifices might not do well with funky fluid. I hope you get yours working...

    Newbie Payload Question

I think Blissmobil makes modular house "boxes" that mount like a sea container at the corners. We are in the process of designing our own module now. We can’t afford a purchased one, so we will be building it ourselves. It lets us get exactly what we want also. Michael

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

That’s what I was thinking last night, too, but this morning, looking at the full sized image, it looks like there is a little plastic cover over the shaft that makes it look larger. Thanks, Michael

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

I spent some time looking for a replacement NOS FWD driveshaft assembly. I looked at TM 9-2320-365-24P, 131-1 and the FWD driveshaft is listed as P/N 483-49-050-145. I sent out inquiries to a number of shops and suppliers. I got several replies back saying that P/N 483-49-050-145 has been...

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

Thanks for all the input guys. It would be awesome if I could just take it to a reliable shop and get it rebuilt, but I really worry that they wouldn't do it right. It would be a real bummer if it wasn't done right, and it came apart on the highway sometime. I've been looking around for a NOS...

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

The u-joints all feel nice and tight. The bearings on the differential and the transfer case all feel good too. Its vertical play in the driveshaft from slop in the splines that allow the driveshaft to change length with suspension travel. I need to take one of my dial indicator to the truck...

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

Someone on the forum came by and picked up the truck bed on Friday. They picked it up with their M931A2, so it was nice to check out another MV. It was a cool truck. Thanks guys! It was very nice to meet you. I hope it works well for your project. I haven't been posting much, but my wife and...

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

Weighing it would be interesting, but we have it a bit torn apart right now. I'm not sure how I would get it to a truck scale. We've been removing little things from it that we don't need like the lift beams, and the suspension squat system. It would be interesting to know what it weights...

Thanks for the clarification Juskatla. I read a bunch of info in the link you posted. I looks like we will likely do fine going through with the truck, but I'll continue to read up about it. Thanks, Michael

Went to the Overland Expo today !

I agree with you Suprman. It's a pretty good setup from the beginning. I think the gearing is even fine. The air-box is a minor issue. I think it's fine where it is, but I also think it's likely acceptable to move it if one wants. I test drove a Steyr and looked at Mogs and FUSO. It's hard...

Went to the Overland Expo today !

I'll have to pull it apart and take a look. They probably did some kind of flow conditioning prior to the air entering the vortex tube bank. I think the vortex tube bank can take ambient air directly without any flow conditioning (like the inertial particle separators on helicopter and...

Went to the Overland Expo today !

I would love to have our camper as far forward as possible and make use of that air cleaner volume, but personalty I'm not a fan of moving the air cleaner. I think it's a good cleaner assembly, so we are planning to leave it where it is. Donaldson Inertial Particle Separation Technology...
