Not an MV but my "While deployed V

Re: RE: Not an MV but my "While deployed V Amen! I don't care how many MPG's your toyota or whatever gets or that it's cheaper or more 'reliable'...I am proud to serve my country as an American and whenever possible, buy American. My respect to all of you who still emphatically support the...

    M925's

Bruce and C'dub, Hope you guys are enjoying your 5 tons. Bruce, I hope this finds you and your family well. The reason the M939's have a propensity to lock the wheels up is due to an overzealous proportioning brake valve (pre MWO) that would lock the brakes sometimes even under moderate...

    M925's

I second what Bruce is saying. Proprietary 900A2 parts are very expensive and with performing PMCS correctly and timely, it is also a costly truck to operate. Not including many other items, I recently have spent over $2000 for a radiator, fan actuator and solenoid alone. They are great...

Towing an M105 with civy truck

No doubt that it is heavy, but I have had to lift it a few times and it is not impossible. So in a pinch you could lift it up enough to get it on the hitch. 400lbs. seems a bit high to me, though.

    Improper Use of Gov't Property...

I am impressed by how much air he got on the last "jump". Don't know if I would ever be up for doing that in mine or one in the motorpool, though.

    M939 warning notice.

Not that I would necessarily recommend doing it, but I have in the past gently used low range reverse with no ill effects. According to our motorpool NCO who has spent many years fixing these trucks here and overseas, it is the multiplication of torque in low range reverse coupled to an already...

    M800 series Automatic

Chris, you are absolutely correct about the T-case and backing up in low range. It wasn't designed to handle that much torque. I have spoken at length with our unit motor pool mechanics about numerous 5-ton issues and haven't heard the rough shifting/T-case cracking 'problem' either. Like...

    What solvent to clean tires?

CGarbee is right. If you don't have a pressure washer, take it to a truck stop wash and have them use the hot water line. It uses a lower pressure nozzle and works great to remove the overspray! They charged me about $30 to clean up some overspray on a couple of the 14.00 20's - well worth...

M809/M939 5 ton air filter elements

I have thus far been unable to locate a suitable filter replacement for my 5 ton. I purchased something similar to what you have and plugged the hole with a bolt/washer/nut and it seems to work very well with no noticeable effect on performance. Look at the CFM rating of the filter - I don't...
