Currently up north and my 831 is giving me grief. Ive been running the unit off a 30 gallon auxilary tank. Tank gauge says 1/4 full. Generator was running fine when it shut down. Low fuel light was lit. Main tank gauge shows 3/8 full. I got 5 gallons of on road diesel and tipped it into the...
Do go through the procedure and follow every step. You will need to repeat the process several times because later setting will throw the earlier ones off. This will take several hours so be patient. For mine, I ultimately had to adjust the target magnet. It's a very finicky setting and just...
On occasion my magnet still gets out of adjustment. It's an exceptionally fine line where the unit won't surge and the magnet has enough pull to shut the engine down. Even tightening the nut is enough to throw the adjustment off. If it's only an occasional problem, the easy solution is to...
There is a disproportional number of these units with governor problems. Thankfully the majority just need adjustment. Start by follow the procedure in the TM to adjust the pot switches. Do this several times because subsequent adjustments will throw off the earlier ones. If you still can't...
If you're gonna try welding it, I'd suggest v'ing out the crack and drilling a hole at the end of the crack to help stop it's progression. Make sure you wipe it down really well with brake cleaner so you get all the oil off the surface and out of the crack. I have a Yanmar in a compactor...
Yea, keep the stray oil washed off of it. My machine lit up when I got a mapp torch too close to an injector return line and the oil soaked cloth jacket started on fire. The jacket burned like a cannon fuse. The line burned for a while until the fire got into the belly pan and started some...
Moisture activates the corrosion so that hose off might not be good. My skidsteer burned a several months ago it's surprising how much corrosion has occurred. Of course, it has been sitting outside so there has been plenty of moisture.
I've put about 150 hours on mine and it's only gotten more reliable as I've worked the bugs out. Our cabin is off grid as well and we've been using it for construction power. I can't stand leaving it run unloaded, so I've been shutting it down between cuts. 100x more reliable than the gasser...
The TM assumes the adjustment of the target magnet is beyond the capabilities of the field mechanic. Based on what the mechanic had done to my engine, I doubt he was qualified to wash windows.
Mine was screwed up as well. It took a lot of fiddling to get it set just right but it is doable. Once in a while the target doesn't stick upon shut down, but that's just a matter of making a tiny adjustment to the magnet strength.
You will need to go through the adjustment sequence several times as later adjustments will throw the early one off.
The gap is referring to the space between the target and the magnet.
I'm not sure what would be leaking oil because the only Yanmar that I have which leaks has a crack in the case. That said, Yanmar parts are very cheap so it's worth the effort.
The governor setting is just labor so there no cost, so long as you already have a good multimeter. I had to buy a...
What color was the smoke? Coal black or did it have a tinge of blue? Generally wet stacking is only exhibited when a unit is under loaded. Mine has been showing some minor symptoms of wet stacking because I havn't been loading it hard enough. Honestly, I doubt yours wet stacked. If the...
Sounds like that motor is hurt.
Somewhere I've posted the number for the guy in Florida that I've been buying parts from. Might be easier to jump on the most popular auction site on the web as there's a muffler on there right now.
He'd be too lucky if it has a removable cylinder. Thankfully I only had to do a head gasket on mine. The worst part of the job was removing the muffler mounting bolt.
Tearing the engine down isn't hard but to get the piston out you'll need to pull the rod cap and I'm pretty sure this will require the engine to come out. Hopefully you don't have to pull the crank because pulling and installing the stator is a bitch. The good news is that Yanmar parts are...
Unless you have the unit flipped on it's back when trying to fill it with oil, it's impossible to over fill it. Honda's control their oil level a simular way: you simply fill it until the oil comes out of the hole. You can try to put more in, but it'll just run back out.
How do you know that...
