Lug nuts (and how to bust your own)

I got AutoZone's finest no-name 3/4" drive ratchet, a couple feet of 3/4" extensions, and a 1.5" socket. Haven't had to figure out what I will do with the Budd nuts however. I have already swapped out my front tires (badly cupped) and only needed about a 2 foot cheater bar (half of my hydro...

    Super cord for a Deuce

I got mine from eriks mil surplus (Warthog's link.) It actually came preattached to my soft top from them. Erik is a great guy, will buy from him any time he has what I need.

Height of the pintel hitch on 818 with 11.00's

yeah I would bolt the lunette on properly... or make attachment points on the small truck to fit a military tow bar. If you have your buddy drive the small truck home, smack him upside the head and tell him to let you know if ANYTHING falls off the big truck or seems to be going wrong. I...

How do you prefer your deuce?

I prefer mine with the back empty and bare. Not like I have a choice at the moment, it came with no bows or cover... I haven't decided if I am going to get a cargo cover for it when I start using it to haul the jeeps.

Need advice on insurance, historic, no garage

FYI - I contacted Gulfway yesterday. They are unable to write insurance policies in Massachusetts. So are State Farm and Geico. The search continues... If it weren't for the fact I'd probably get bagged for tax evasion I would simply register and insure my truck at a friend's place in NH. 3...

    Uses for Deuces

Yup! Exactly what I have in mind. I originally looked for a deuce but couldn't find one for as cheap as I got my 5 ton for. What did you use to make those ramps? Mine are 2" square 1/4 wall box tubing with 1.5" angle welded across as ladder bars every 8 inches or so, 12 feet long. It feels...

    Running 1 odd size tire?

how'd I manage that? I'm going to blame lack of sleep, I think. Yeah, the lube should stay in and the dirt should stay out. If you have the opposite happening you must be filling a Jeep with Pennzoil.

    Running 1 odd size tire?

I'd put the smaller tire on and then pull an axle shaft like people said above. If you have any broken axle shafts or can get them (shouldn't be hard) you can make a blockoff plate by simply chopping the shaft down with an angle grinder or chop saw. Should keep the dirt in and the lube out.

    Cry Baby Neighbors

I can't say this enough - if you are looking to buy property, make sure it is not covered by a HOA / covenants. Asking your realtor or the seller's realtor may not be accurate, it wasn't in my case. Fortunately I had learned how to look through the property / deed database for Massachusetts...

    M923 - Reverse Shifting

Yep... the reverse gear is a granny gear and if you aren't careful you can break the transfer case with the extra torque with the R/low gear combo.

can we have a new forum called the "Pin Up Room"?

No need. I state this as a single 25 year old dude. I have looked at maybe 3 pages of the calendar thread. I have other sites I can go to if I want to look at stuff like this, I come here for MV discussion.

    Dangerous Trailer Loading

I'd fix the bigger vehicle and tow the smaller one with it. Or failing that, park the bigger one somewhere out of the way with plates on it and move it a bit every few days while finding a way to fix it or get it home. There is NO WAY I would tow like that. That is an accident looking for a...

    Uses for Deuces

Did the same pulling a friend in a '98 ZJ (2" lift, 31s) out... high centered on a sand hill. He'd been digging for hours. I drove up, hitched up the strap, put it in reverse and took my foot off the clutch and he popped right off it. Amen to that  speaking of which I need to buy more...

    Bounce bounce?

Does it seem to come from the front or the back? What kind of road generally causes it, if it doesn't happen all the time? Does the bouncing get faster as you speed up, then go away? I would bet on out of round tires, bad shocks, a bent rim, etc. The jointed cement highways in Pennsylvania...

    Wreckerman screwed the pooch

Pretty easy if the cable hasn't stretched too much and the shoes still have enough meat on em. You need 2 wrenches (forget what size, both SAE and both under 1") and maybe a pair of vise grips - find the parking brake on the rear output of the transfer case, loosen the smaller jam nut on the...

    CHOCK those tires!!

I would only even consider that on a hard surface that is fairly level. My chock block that got pushed right into the ground was about 6 inches tall and 4-5 inches wide and it rolled over it like it wasn't even there.

    Flat Tire on Deuce

changing the tire on these things brings the suck... especially alone. Blew one of my 11.00x20s (but I found the steel pipe marking the boundary between my neighbor's lot and mine while pulling a tree for him!) and got to change it out! They are heavy, I don't have a spare winch on my truck...

    Slow vehicle safety

It's real simple once you get past the engineering mumbo jumbo. Buy the diode you choose (either should be fine), find the wire for the signal you want to run to the buzzer, wire the non-striped end of the diode to it. Find the wire for the buzzer. Wire the striped end to it. DONE! (repeat...

    Slow vehicle safety

That little current for that much noise?! I'm impressed. I should have looked it up I guess... IIRC Radio Shack has 1N400x (1 through 7, all 1A rated and varying from 50V PIV to 1000V PIV iirc) in 25-pack assortments for under $5 and 1N540x (or suitable equivalents, they only specify 3A) in...

    Slow vehicle safety

It's the current that supplies that really loud buzzer, not sure of rating but I would aim for at least a 5 or 10 amp rectifier. Anything from about a 1N5807 to a 1N5816 rectifier would probably do the trick. Most silicon rectifiers these days are at least a 50 volt rating and all of those...
