    transfercase reversal/ 5 and 5 deuce tranny

You are really going to hate 1st gear if you use the case backwards in low range... it will be gutless. Unless you are planning on shifting the second case into low range while already moving (can you do this on these cases? I am not sure, only have significant experience on little cases)...

    Solenoid Contact metal

I'd bet on this or possibly a bit of phosphor included in the alloy? I forget, I know phosphor was included in bronze for some purposes and I seem to recall it being in copper alloys for various electronic uses also. As for beryllium toxicity... yep... it is bad news. As a kid I broke open a...

    Wreckerman screwed the pooch

What do you use as wheel chocks for an M1? I mean, aside from Jersey barriers, Hondas, and houses.

    Tranny/Transfer Drain Plug Dimensions

I would stuff the biggest bolt I could into the hole and weld it in, then turn the bolt. You will fry the oil a bit and wreck the seal (if any) on the plug but you are replacing it anyways.

    Wreckerman screwed the pooch

That radiator actually looks patchable. Some copper flashing and a few hours of quality time with a plumber's torch and flux/solder and you will be good to go, though running slightly warmer. I have had to patch radiators in the woods to get friends home, fortunately they had a copper...

    CHOCK those tires!!

Mike, that rubber one looks like the one I got. If you EVER intend to park on gravel or dirt, forget it... get a bigger one. I chocked my wheel one day and the truck still ran away from me! Fortunately I had also turned the wheels toward the side of the road (narrow dirt road, both sides have...

    Zero Oil Pressure

Verify with a mechanical gauge before doing anything. I haven't done this yet but it is on my list of things to do. Mine runs around 20 idling hot, 40 or 50 idling and running cold, 30 to 40 running hot. And my motor hasn't seen the best of treatment. But if there is anything I know it is...

New ADDICT in City Code Enforcement

Awesome! I am glad to hear you have an ally in the town... and that the police are on your side! I am similarly fortunate. Even in this people's republic of Massachusetts, I managed to find a pretty friendly area. I keep my 5 ton parked on a private dirt road that borders the back of my lot...

    Slow vehicle safety

As long as both are positive switched 24 volt signals, just get a 24 volt relay, wire the coil across the lines for the turn signal (or turn signal blinker module, I'd have to check the wiring diagrams) and the NO and COM terminals on the relay across the pressure switch for the low air buzzer...

*old* truck in a yard in central mass

Sadly my cellphone met a violent end several days ago while I was wrenching so I can't take pics till I find my digicam and go back. I don't recall what the fenders looked like, but will try and remember for next time assuming I don't have a camera with me. It was not a CCKW (had the M35 style...

*old* truck in a yard in central mass

Edit: just in case anyone finds this thread, this yard has been closed for years now. Owners kids crushed everything and sold it to a solar farm builder. I am not sure what M-number it is, but it is very old. It's in the back left corner of the junkyard at (I think) 649 Podunk Rd in East...

    Slow vehicle safety

To add fuel to the fire I have texted and driven. I can type on my phone without looking at the keypad except for a fraction of a second every 8 letters or so to spellcheck. I keep my eyes on the road for more time while texting than I do while checking my mirrors preparing for a merge. I...

    Slow vehicle safety

I have noticed this - when I am extremely tired and driving the tendency is for the lights to attract my eyes, and it is difficult to walk or drive somewhere you aren't looking. This is why I pull over and take a 15 minute nap, a tree watering break, a food break, just get out and stretch...

    Deuce/5 ton ROPS Kit?

I like the way you think, but this is probably not a winner simply due to weight. Railroad rails weigh in at anywhere from 80 to 150 lbs per yard. Figuring a bare minimum of 6 feet used per corner, 4 corners, plus 3 foot sidebars and 6 foot crossbars, you have 14 yards of rail (anywhere from...

    Pressurized Axles?

I'd love to see a cheap air pressure regulator that can put out ~1/10 of a psi of air for pressurizing the axles, transfer case, transmission, etc... why? If I find myself in deep water I would rather be blowing a tiny bit of lube out than taking any amount of water in. Haven't been able to...

Help My 5 ton is under flood water!!

It's too bad you didn't have more warning. Could have made a Cuban refugee boat out of it, i.e. get ahold of every 55 gallon drum within 50 miles and lash them all to it, then hope it floats upright. If the water has not gone over the intake yet, certainly seal that off. Same with any...

    Bought an M123A1C today

WOW! Glad you bought that because I am short on cash right now and probably would have bought it if I saw it. Thank you for preserving my financial well being rofl If you ever need a hand working on it let me know, I love wrenching on stuff.

    Deuce/5 ton ROPS Kit?

I usually go with "when in doubt build it stout", so the idea of using 2 inch 0.120 wall DOM has me scratching my head... I can put some serious hurt on that with my 3500lb jeeps nevermind rolling a 20 thousand pound truck over on top of it. I wouldn't be using anything under quarter inch wall...

Hi from GA and HELP !

Double check that what you get from TNJ is what you need, when I got stuff from them half of it was wrong or had to be modified to fit even though I took great pains to specify exactly what I needed. I honestly would go with wreckerman instead. The man knows his stuff and stands behind it.

    R.I.P--SHOOTINIRON--James Ruman

RIP... my deepest condolences. I know it is not much consolation but at least he died doing what he loved, and with a clean conscience. The only thing worse in my mind than dying innocent in a traffic accident is dying at fault in a traffic accident. I will be keeping a very close eye on my...
