My CJ10a tug had some massive frame cracks in it as well. Makes me wonder if "standard" automotive frame based tugs with 8000 pounds of junk welded on to them are really up to the task of towing heavy airport equipment.
Do you have a build thread for it anywhere? I am trying to get all of the cj-10 information in one place. I kinda have a soft spot for these ugly things.

I am trying to get all of the build threads I can find in the same place so...
That is one of jscherb's drawings. I should ask him nicely and see if he would do one of mine! His drawings are somewhat to scale, and that one is based off of stock wheels. Not only will a 37 inch tire not fit on the bed rail in that direction, by back is killing me trying to figure out how...
I am still around, just in the middle of the stuff no one cares about. Grinding, painting, welding, priming, rebuilding the IP, sending out the injectors, blah bah blah. None of it makes good pictures!
I will throw in a couple more pictures of mine, an in process pic of the bed on the fame...
Looking at how my top is put together, I bet that airfoil looking thing is a flip down top. It looks like you can just push it forward and have the whole roof open, probably good when you need to jump up on the seats and shoot at people through the roof.
May be a little more useful, but still...
Now back to my hunk of junk. I am looking at the diesel tank mount. This tank fits pretty well here, but it is big and interesting, to say the least. I am not sure if it is too over the top. There will be a tool box under the bed that will hang down almost as much as the tank, and the tank...
Nothing further on the headache rack. The guy makes them one at a time, and it may take awhile to get it here. I have plenty of time. I have found some pictured of Aussie CJ-10s with a headache rack very similar to what I am going to use, I think it looks good.
I dont know if Uncle Sam ever tried that truck, but the Aussies did, and they have a similar top to the trucks. I have no idea if you can get this stuff imported to the US, but it would be a pain in the ass, I am sure.
No clue what that truck air foil type thing is.
I would have to get some sewing work done on a stock top to fit it because my bed is about 18 inches shorter than the stock bed. I have thought about modifying a cover to fit it, but I have not gotten very far with the thought. It would have been much easier if I kept the bed the stock length...
Couple pics of the 4BT at home, and a mockup of the truck on the repaired frame. It is amazing how much high it sits when it is not cracked and bowing. It should settle down a couple inches, but I could always put 39s on it to fill out the wheelwells!8)
Yeah, the 4BT is a pretty slick motor. I have helped put one on a Toyota FJ40 and FZJ80, both of them turned out very nicely. Good economy, big power potential, smallish package.
It is a tall sucker, so you really need a lift or a springover to make it work.
I have a HE341 turbo off of a 3rd...
Thanks! It took a lot of time to get the dimensions of the bed down to where I was happy with it. I think it turned out pretty nice. Luckily the width worked out as well, narrowing the bed was not something I was looking forward to.
I was half thinking about calling this build "Baby Bobber"...
I have thought about it a lot and I still might change some things, but I am pretty happy with where it is. Pretty funny you mention the landcruiser pickup. I have been reading FJ45 builds to get inspiration for this one and I am using a fj45 headache rack on the bed. The landcruiser pickups...
The frame is some weird export thing, everything on it is designed to be left or right hand drive. It is close to the wagoneer frame. The springs are 32 inches apart, which is a half inch off of the 1028 spring pad width, but a with a little slotting of the springs they fit just fine. You do...
It also has M1028 axles and HMMWV wheels and tires, so I guess it is mostly military! Just screwed together a little different...
I didn't move anything in the fabrication of the frame, I just hacked off the entire rear of the vehicle and made it all new. The fact that I nearly broke the truck...
I kinda took a couple huge steps backwards and found some cracks in the frame so I stripped it all the way down and started fabricating the rear of the frame from scratch. Things are going slowly. I do have a Cummins 4BT for the truck, along with a NV 4500.
I have been putting my progress...
Thanks for the interest.
I keep this thread a little more up to date

I am using a M101 bed for my CJ-10a project and need a little input on how they are mounted to the factory frame. I see there are T holes in the ribs of the bed, are these for carriage bolts? Is there anything between the ribs of the trailer and the frame? Is there just a piece of angle iron...
