my m1028 was doing the same as yours. i had bouth alts tested one good, one bad. replased the bad one. after checking the system, and Warthog's help, i found a bad fusable link going to the ground stud on the back of alt 2.
the data plate on my drivers side door says that the truck is an m1028, but i do have drw on the truck. so my questions are
1. has the milatary ever neglected to update the data plate for an upgrade?

now look what i started. i just wanted som info on my m1028, as this is my first mv. i know that there is an A1, A2, and and A3 modle. so i should have a detroit locker in the rear of my truck? also i have drw and a np208 transfercase, this would make it an A3? where can i get a good used...
yea ther is a little black box on the fire wall with 2 nut. there should be like 7 wires coming from it. one from the batterys, your gen1 positive that loops back around to gen2, and a few more. its right above you driverside vale cover next to the master.:deadhorse:
are you geting any vlotage to the cab/fuse box? i would look at the fusable link coming off your battery going to the rest of the 12v system. it is right next to the master cylinder, big red wire. outher than that check all you fusable link, i just replaced mine for the gen 2 wire and it looked...
just replased the fusable link up by the master cylinder, it was blown. the insulation was still good but fellapart when i touched it. gen 2 light comes on and i am charging.

ok Warthog you just said the evil f-word (fusable link). i have never had a pre90's chevy that i did not have a fusable link blow on me, mostly the main power wires. i will check those in the daylight.
